WSJ points out republican hypocrisy on stimulus

some of you dems are really desperate....if they don't accept the money, you accuse them of subverting the will of the people, if they accept the money, they are hypocrites

ok yurt, they stand on the floor and tell the world how bad this for the nation and vote no , but when they are back home they tell the people look what I did for ya , look at all this free money, yep I would say the are fcuking hypocrites

Presumably they were representing the 'will' of their constituencies when they voted against the money.

...or were they?

This whole episode is hilarious. All the wingnuts out there who say no one watches Rachel Maddow ought to take note that she took the lead on this story and now it's everywhere.

Busting that phoney fuckstick Ryan was priceless!!!

This is the article in the WSJ concerning republican letters:

Republican Hyocrites Criticize Stimulus- Beg for $ - Golf Forum | Golf Channel

Democrats Target Stimulus Critics Who Sought Funds
--------------------------------------------
Some Republicans Who Slammed $787 Billion Program Also Sought Funds for Projects in Their Districts, Letters Show

WASHINGTON—Democrats, stung by criticism of their $787 billion economic-stimulus plan, are targeting Republicans who have attacked the program and then lobbied to get money for their districts.

More than a dozen Republican lawmakers supported stimulus-funding requests submitted to the Department of Labor, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Forest Service, in letters obtained by The Wall Street Journal through the Freedom of Information Act.

The stimulus package passed last February with no Republican votes in the House of Representatives. In the Senate, just three Republicans supported it: Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, who later switched to the Democratic Party.

This point will be brought up in races all over America in months to come. I like this cake walk Repubs suddenly think they're in.

Do you think that it's date invalidates it?
I don't read wingnut papers.

Keith Olbermann featured this on his show Tuesday night.

Oh, Olbermann. OK. SO it's gospel then.
For the record, the WSJ skewers Republicans just like it skewers Democrats. While "Republican hypocrisy" always makes good talking points, it is misplaced here. There is no hypocrisy.
Democratic hypocrisy otoh is too widely attested to even begin to bring examples. This site lacks bandwidth to accomodate even a tenth of them.

This story has been simmering for ages. It goes way back to Bobby Jindal, in that infamously comical response to President Obama's congressional address, where Jindal slammed the stimulus,
then got caught later on posing with some constituents holding a giant stimulus check.

Not mention that he also said: "Today in Washington, some are promising that [big government] will rescue us from the economic storms raging all around us.

"Those of us who lived through Hurricane Katrina -- we have our doubts."

...while in fact he'd been to Washington seeking federal funds FOR Katrina recovery.

Got you upset, did it Rabbi? Some Republican members of Congress are hypocrites and liars. Stop whinning and get your house in order. Don't blame the messenger, and don't pretend because some Democrats are also hypocrits and liars, it excuses the hypocrisy exposed.
Consider for one moment the gravity of the hypocrisy exposed by RM and the WSJ, not only is it dishonest, but it is an effort to undermine the efforts to restore economic health to America by the elected president of the US. It is a conspiracy lead by the Republican leadership, and if the attack of 9/11 was meant to destroy not only buildings, but our economy too, the behavior of Sen. Imhoff, et al is treasonable.

I remember that, Jindal has been quiet for about a year. Hoping people will forget he was against it and then for it?.. No doubt.

The other thing was the deficit reduction bill that Repubs co sponsored and after Obama supported it, they turned around and rejected it. I'm sure there are more dumb Republican moves that will be forthcoming.

Idiots.

Don't you mean the bipartisan jobs bill that Harry Reid turned around and torpedoed?
Yeah, Republicans are idiots. For thinking they can work with Democrats.
Fortunately after November they won't have to. Every Democrat up for re-election will either drop out, go over to the GOP, or be defeated.
