Is it possible, that Offshore wind farms kill whales? Certainly the installation of thousands of wind turbines offshore does kill, is it possible that Wind Farms are killing whales?

It is a question somebody has put forth, very sad indeed, as it does appear true.

Hundreds Of Unexplained Whale Deaths Might Be Linked To Offshore Wind Farms....

The whales would not be exposed to the amplitude that people would be. They are not sharing media with the rotors as are we. All sounds would have to be transmitted through the tower bases and they are not particularly compliant structures. The article states that the first casualties were Minke whales. Minke whales attain a maximum length of 18 feet. They would not be sensitive to the subsonic frequencies produced by large wind turbines.

Prove it. All your previous posts show you make things up, maybe this time you can be different and actually offer something more than your opinion which is mangled to support your belief in the almighty wind power.

That is nothing more than my informed opinion. But, what do you have?

Humans kill to exist imagine that.

Unfortunately, your article provides NO evidence of any sort that wind farms are killing whales. That sonar and seismic charges kill whales has been clearly demonstrated. Not so with wind farms.

'''unexplained/possible/might''' --all these words used in the link

Humans kill to exist imagine that.
and they kill for many other reasons:
greed
passion
hate
nonsensical thoughts
can't get a girlfriend
etc etc

The link to jason enfield's website, which is better than you non-informed opinion.

You state sonar and seismic kills whales? Maybe you could explain the sound generated in a 500 foot tall tower well 25 mph intermittent wind and occasional gust buffet the the tower. Than you could explain the sound that is generated in the tips of the turbines, spinning at over a 100 mph, being buffeted by the erratic wind gusts. Then with your sound expertise you could explain the harmonics and sub-harmonics that are generated, then transmitted through the 1000 ton base. Crick, please explain all these frequencies, harmonics, and sub-harmonics and how they could never ever effect the navigation of whales.

It is possible wind turbines are killing whales? All we have are dead wales at the same place as wind turbines, despite the oceans being so vast.

Modern active sonar systems generate over 100,000 watts of acoustic energy. They will kill humans at full power and close range. They are DESIGNED to create loud noises and put them in the water. Wind turbines are not. Wind turbines create tones consisting of their shaft rate, their blade rate, 60 ro 50 Hz from their generators and a few tones from their transmissions. The first two are too low to be sensed even by a blue whale. The 60 Hz (or 50 Hz ) will produce lots of harmonics. Subharmonics are rare and harmonics in both directions lack power. The power generated by the blades is dependent on the difference in air density between the top and bottom of the rotor diameter; not a large value. Given the location of the turbine and the structure between, more power would get transferred to the water from the household generators of a cruise ship than the turbines perched on those tall towers.

sub-harmonics are rare? in your imagination
are these the only frequencies capable of being generated?
what is the frequency created when a 40 mph gust buffets a turbine tip spinning at 100 mph?
a turbine tip being buffeted by the wind, how is that energy amplified across the 100 ft length of the blade?
how is the energy and or sound amplified by a 500 ft tall tower?

Finally you and I agree, the power generated by the blades is not a large value, it is small.

and of course, without a scientific study, is it possible that a storm drove the whale into a wind turbine?
or maybe it affects the whales sense of navigation, and they become trapped?
so many questions, no answers
