The problem the GOP has is that their back to back losses in 2006 and 2008, along with Bush's refusal to groom a successor like Reagan groomed his father, has left the party rudderless.

Compounding that problem was the insistence of the GOP Leadership that they were going to make it easy for Romney, no matter what, despite his dismal electoral record.
