Would you rather be in control of your money,or let the government have control?

It would be so great to not have to pay taxes.

And it would be so great if every time you drove on roads and freeways, your local government would send you a bill for the road use.

And it would be great that if you REALLY wanted to know what was in your food and drink, you could personally write a check to a company to do the teating.

It would be so great if, when you made a 911 call, the first thing they did was get your credit card number.

It would be so great that if everytime we fired a Hellfire missle at a terrorist, a bill would be sent to every working American.

It would be so great that, when your kid went off to school the first day of the year, included in their backpack is a big check to pay for school.

It would be so great to pay a private company to tell you what effects the drugs you take might have.

It would be great to have a natural disaster and simply send a bill to everyone that requires help in surviving the disaster.

Yes sir ree I can see that paying no taxes would really be great.

Funny no one mentioned abolishing taxes in this thread but you.

Hey skull.

What is wrong with my idea of personally paying for govmint provided services as they are used?

Thought you wanted to keep all your money?

What, now it would be ok to pay a little tax for some important services.

Say it ain't so.

How much is the "right" amount of tax to pay skull? You know, to pay for the service provided.

Or are you just a moneyed welfare queen and want all those guvmint services...... for free.

Freedom vs. Communism.
would you rather live in a free, independent nation, where you partner with each level of government in being the checks and balances, and have control of appropriations, budgets, and disbursements and all aspects of ones future and their own prosperity without overregulation, and have greater latitude of entrepraneurship.....

Now the OP does not specifically say "abolish taxes". It just implies that abolishing taxes would be good.
And individuals would pay personally for guvmint services. Throug a "partnership".

I cannot, on my own, build a bridge, road or dam. I cannot, on my own, forge a standing army to protect my home. I don't own a firetruck.

Last time I checked, we were a government of "we the people". Even when given to the government, it's still my money since the government is us.

What you should really be upset about is that the representatives elected by us are not representing us because they are too busy shilling for donations and lobbyist money just so they can run again.

There are some things that the government must do that cannot be fee for service.

There are many things the government does that could be fee for service.

I have no problem with all interstate highways being toll roads or having people with kids in public schools pay more for schools.

I would like to see a war tax for every military action. It would end our addiction to war very quickly.

But individually billing people is ludicrous.

Let's get back to what really needs to be done, the government needs a budget, then they need to cut spending.

When they do those two things, then we'll talk some more about my money.

I have a little money saved and a lot to show for what I've spent. If not for government taking so much in taxes, I could have paid my kids' college tuition instead of taking out a mountain of loans, but the government thinks I need to pay for other people's kids to go. I have the cheapest cell phone plan there is for my family, yet the government thinks we should pay for other people to have free cell phones, so they take more.

I keep the heat turned down to 68 in winter and don't run AC in summer and still have to budget carefully to be able to pay utilities, yet the government thinks I can afford a little more in taxes to pay for other people's utilities.

I take a calculator to the grocery store and a handful of coupons to make sure I stay within my strict budget. I go home with fewer and fewer groceries each time because my pay hasn't increased with inflation, but the government still thinks they should take a little more from me to buy food for others, including illegal aliens. Many of the welfare recipients were giving their friends and neighbors extra food they didn't need. There are so many programs that many throw out unused cereal and milk because they are given more than they need. The government addresses this by creating more programs and giving them even more milk and cereal.

The government has killed small businesses in the last few years and millions of jobs are gone permanently, yet the government limits the number of small business loans banks can make. I guess they don't want the banks funding people so they can start businesses and hire people.

The government has taken more and more and has less and less to show for it except bloated welfare rolls and a lot of money going to their buddies, like the unions, but the country isn't better off.

The average 10 year old is smarter with money than the government.

Solyndra is sending you a "Thank You" note.

Or....

Would you like to live in a nanny stare, where youre told how successful youll be,how much money you make, have everything redistributed to those who dont earn it,catering fibancially to the interests that want to destroy your quality of life and freedom???

Do you have all your money in your home or do you keep your money in a bank? Because I think having money in banks, I want government to be in control. For example, they insure my money is good up to $100,000. They make sure the bankers don't fuck me. At least they are supposed to. When they are in control, our money is safe.

You must not understand how important the regulations were that Bush undid and how that all led to those toxic assets. Its too much for me to explain, but basically the bankers took our 401K's that were supposed to be safe investments and they put it all on black and red came up. And they didn't have enough cash on reserve for such an emergency because the GOP government said free markets are free to do whatever they want.

But then they cried that they were too big to fail. Republicans love socialism, when it goes to the rich. Capitalism for the rest of us though.

Hate to tell you this, but FDIC doesn't have enough money to insure every account to the $100,000 limit either. It just has never been tested outright in time of a calamity.

Or you'd be in serious trouble if you were getting ready to retire the week before the stock market crashed in 2008.

For those who don't realize this yet....when you are young your portfolio should be somewhat risky....as you approach retirement your portfolio should be as risk averse as possible.....sigh....

I want control of my money.

The fact that the fucking government can snatch 15% of my lifetime income for the Social Security slush fund irks me to no end.

If I had that money from the day I started working, I'd be retired already.

Or you'd be in serious trouble if you were getting ready to retire the week before the stock market crashed in 2008.

That is pure BS

Heres a fact.

Had GW been able to pass reform you would have money in an account.

Your economic stupidity is beyond pale.

Some things are best paid for as an individual, some are best provided by society

I hate to tell you this but the FDIC is backed by the Federal Reserve....and the FED can turn on the printing press for as long as they need.

This is why there will never be a run on a bank as long as the FDIC exists...The amount of paper wealth (aka dollars) is only limited to the amount of ink and paper we have.....

My old grandpappy worked all his life and save for his old age. One day he went to the bank to draw out his monthly allottment and bingo the bank was closed. Seems the bank had taken grandpappy's money and played the stock market, one couldn't lose, and the bank lost. The money was never seen again, and my grandpappy didn't last long enough for Hoover to leave office and the Democrats to take over. Hoover believed corporations should be helped but not people. Hooverism still lives in Republican philosophy, and is on occassion covered up with pious platitudes slogans or simple either-or questions.

Sad story....So we either have two options.....do away with fractional reserve banking, or insure bank deposits through the FDIC.
