Freedom vs. Communism.
would you rather live in a free, independent nation, where you partner with each level of government in being the checks and balances, and have control of appropriations, budgets, and disbursements and all aspects of ones future and their own prosperity without overregulation, and have greater latitude of entrepraneurship.....

Or....

Would you like to live in a nanny stare, where youre told how successful youll be,how much money you make, have everything redistributed to those who dont earn it,catering fibancially to the interests that want to destroy your quality of life and freedom???

well this is about the most loaded question of all time:lol:

Maybe this will help to sum up my feelings....
[ame=www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO2eh6f5Go0]The Government Can [/ame]

I have a little money saved and a lot to show for what I've spent. If not for government taking so much in taxes, I could have paid my kids' college tuition instead of taking out a mountain of loans, but the government thinks I need to pay for other people's kids to go. I have the cheapest cell phone plan there is for my family, yet the government thinks we should pay for other people to have free cell phones, so they take more.

I keep the heat turned down to 68 in winter and don't run AC in summer and still have to budget carefully to be able to pay utilities, yet the government thinks I can afford a little more in taxes to pay for other people's utilities.

I take a calculator to the grocery store and a handful of coupons to make sure I stay within my strict budget. I go home with fewer and fewer groceries each time because my pay hasn't increased with inflation, but the government still thinks they should take a little more from me to buy food for others, including illegal aliens. Many of the welfare recipients were giving their friends and neighbors extra food they didn't need. There are so many programs that many throw out unused cereal and milk because they are given more than they need. The government addresses this by creating more programs and giving them even more milk and cereal.

The government has killed small businesses in the last few years and millions of jobs are gone permanently, yet the government limits the number of small business loans banks can make. I guess they don't want the banks funding people so they can start businesses and hire people.

The government has taken more and more and has less and less to show for it except bloated welfare rolls and a lot of money going to their buddies, like the unions, but the country isn't better off.

The average 10 year old is smarter with money than the government.

The government isn't in control of my money right now. I'm content where I'm at regarding that situation.

Do you have all your money in your home or do you keep your money in a bank? Because I think having money in banks, I want government to be in control. For example, they insure my money is good up to $100,000. They make sure the bankers don't fuck me. At least they are supposed to. When they are in control, our money is safe.

You must not understand how important the regulations were that Bush undid and how that all led to those toxic assets. Its too much for me to explain, but basically the bankers took our 401K's that were supposed to be safe investments and they put it all on black and red came up. And they didn't have enough cash on reserve for such an emergency because the GOP government said free markets are free to do whatever they want.

But then they cried that they were too big to fail. Republicans love socialism, when it goes to the rich. Capitalism for the rest of us though.

You don't even know what amount your accounts are insured up to. Really.

Like the pensions though, it's all 'talk.' If the cards fall, so do your deposits.

If it weren't for the FDIC the modern banking system would change over night. Would that be a good or bad think? I think I've finally drank the kool-aid though and accepted the fractional reserve system....God help me...

You do realize the government isn't trying to turn a profit, right? If a tornado hits, they/we pay. If we have to fight a war, that costs money. If we want roads, those cost money too. And if someone gets sick or can't work and we don't want them to die, we provide them with disability/social security and medicare. Schools, police, militaries and firefighters cost money. Judges cost money. The post office will deliver a piece of mail all the way to Switzerland for $9. UPS charges $50. I could go on and on.

And if you want to pay less taxes, maybe think about telling Congress to end the Bush tax breaks. We certainly can't afford to give you tax breaks too at the same time, right? We're already broke. But the GOP gave tax breaks to the rich and said it will trickle down. Has it yet? So maybe this time they give the tax breaks to us, not the rich. We will spend it. It will trickle up.

And you don't want to pay more taxes so don't wonder why there is no money for roads and bridge projects.

Want to live in a country where you don't pay any taxes but they don't provide any services? Move to Pakistan.

People in Switzerland don't cry about the taxes because they make good money and get good social services for the taxes they pay.

But I agree, you and I do pay too much. That is why we should be getting the Bush tax breaks, not people who make over $1 million a year. Remember because they pay less, we owe more. That's a fact.

I heard we work from January to April to pay all our Federal, state and local taxes. The rest of the year is yours. 8 months for you, 4 months for uncle sam. That's too much for people who make less than $100K.

Then you would love my dad. Became rich on $11 hr. Said, "its not what you make but what you save". He has 2 paid off houses and enough money in the bank he never has to worry about money.

But that's also because he gets social security, medicare and a pension.

A lot of people who don't make $1 million dollars but have over one million dollars in assets rely on their pensions, social security and medicare. Without those things, they might not be so "rich". And you guys are against all three if I'm not mistaken. :cuckoo:

Why would I be against a pension? As for social security...it seems as though the government cannot be trusted to handle that...I'll be lucky if I ever see it, and if all the experts are wrong and I do see it, I would have rather managed my own retirement (had the option of opting out and investing on my own.) I support medicare.

Not really a discussion.

Most of us would prefer to be independent of government, absolutely.

But the choice isn't between "freedom" and "dependence".

By undermining the middle class and making us all compete for jobs that pay a pittance, the 1% is very good at getting us all to fight over that last cookie.

You do realize that you control where the money in your 401K goes don't you?

Oh yeah you obviously don't

I want control of my money.

The fact that the fucking government can snatch 15% of my lifetime income for the Social Security slush fund irks me to no end.

If I had that money from the day I started working, I'd be retired already.

Who would you rather have in control of your nation?

An elected government or the people you work for?

In case you murkins didn't notice the recession, homes falling to half the value owed on them, massive bankruptcies and foreclosures. This is all proof that murkins have no business or ability to handle their own money, especially for a retirement.

If that were the choice: My one vote ultimately doesn't count for much, and I have essentially zero effect on what professional politicians do (they're far more interested in their donors). On the other hand, I am free to work where I want; to leave a job I don't like; to improve my skills to further my career; to start my own business.

Pretty easy call. I'll go with the latter.

Or you'd be in serious trouble if you were getting ready to retire the week before the stock market crashed in 2008.

Not really.

Because you see if I was going to retire I would not have the majority of my money in stocks.
And So what if I had to delay retiring for a few years. I'm only 46.
