Would a ban on all public religious representations and displays ease religious hatreds and violence

lost any support from me at the word "ban"

Then you must enjoy seeing people fight and be killed for non-existent gods.

Let me waste my breath to try to make you think of gays and women.

If you think you should live by the Golden Rule, change the labels in this quote to women, minorities, gays or children being brainwashed by religions and it shows what we should be thinking and doing for each other.

"First they came for the Jews, but I did nothing because I'm not a Jew. Then they came for the socialists, but I did nothing because I'm not a socialist. Then they came for the Catholics, but I did nothing because I'm not a Catholic. Finally, they came for me, but by then there was no one left to help me." – Pastor Father Niemoller (1946)”

Banning anything is an aggressive act...so one had better be sure to have a good acceptable reason for doing so....so banning drunk driving or murder and extortion is one thing but to ban religion is tyrannical and will make matters much worse....

You have nothing to back up your opinion and I have reality and what is going on in France right now to back up my opinion.

Please look at post 37 where I spoke of the success story in France.

Would a ban on all public religious representations and displays ease religious hatreds and violence?

We have to end inquisitions and jihads of all kinds, including the less lethal ones like homophobia and misogyny.

Some secular governments, led by the French of France and Quebec, are implementing bans on all religious iconography prayers and emblems and religious displays so as to ease religious tensions and violence. They call it laïcité, which translates to secularism. Laïcité - Wikipedia

The general secular population seems to dislike the one-upmanship that the religious practice on other religions, as well as those who do not follow a religion; even though statistics show that the less religion in a nation, the more peaceful and law abiding it is. Conversely, if we look at the Christian nation of the U.S., as an example; we see perhaps the least peaceful and law abiding nation on earth. This last aside, an example of this one-upmanship, would be Christian signage that tells us to turn to Jesus or be condemned and Muslim head gear and face covering that say that the wearer is more chastely than those who do not cover their heads and bodies.

Jesus said that we should pray in private so as not to be seen as trying to outdo each other in chastity, righteousness and other one-upmanship adjectives that you might think of. Yet most who say they respect Jesus do not follow his teachings of remaining private and insist on public displays of their perceived insult to others not of their brand.

I see the secular world as following Jesus’ advice on this while the so called religious ignore Jesus.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Apparently you've never read the First Amendment........

Yet your government has put in laws to control what your more disgusting religions were doing so that they will stop their nonsense, showing that you have no clue as to what your garbage constitution means.

and what inquisitions need to end???

I thought they ended centuries ago???

Inquisitions and jihads are sent to control thinking and send it to a certain point of view by whatever means necesary.

I see that thought control trying to be exerted on better than half of the worlds population who are women and gays with religious homophobic and misogynous teachings discrimination and denigration.

The mainstream religions will not allow for the equality of gays and women and are trying to have them be second class citizens.

thats a lie,,,its the gays and women who demand others see things their way,,
the others just want to be left alone to live their lives as they see fit

Has removing Civil War statues and rewriting our past resolved racism?
Stop trying to remove free speech, religion, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Stop cutting our own throat.

Liberty > the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views.

I have the liberty to find a box and stand on it in public and recite scripture all day long if I want. And you have the liberty to stand right next to me and refute it all day long if you want. Or walk right on by.
Stop trying to repress our rights you dumb ass. The world envies the freedom that you want to strangle.

Same thought I have whenever I read any of your posts, you're going to find great joy and happiness in the Lord

Not likely.
Only a corrupted moral sense would find joy with his head up a genocidal son murdering prick of a god's ass.

I will let you have that great joy.

Well, the OP didn't specify where the ban would come from. I took it as a question of what the effect would be, assuming it were done --- on whatever level.

I've many times stated that a don't ask don't tell approach to religious ideology, which includes no medalions and symbols, would help society a lot, but hiding my Jewish nose is harder then hiding my Mezuzah. :--)

I am pleased to see a sane answer in this way to American weirdo place.
It is my view that Jewry was well on the way to a moral ideology before Christianity usurped your god and reversed much of his teachings.

I also think that my own Chrestian and Karaite Jews founded what is now Gnostic Christianity. We tend to think about the same superior to Christianity and Islam way.

You think using violence to interfere with our right to freely exercise our religion is going to stop hatred and violence?

"Gnostic Christian" means "not any light idea about the Christian rebound in god" or much shorter "Antichristian". You try to attribuate the pseudo-emotion "hate" with the expression "Christian" in sense of an effect of conditioning. A typical propaganda strategy of Nazis and Bolshevics. With Jews has such a stupid behavior nothing to do.

Speaking as a life-long American and a Liberal, and according to my own belief in how this nation could be run if we gave it our best, every American has the right to worship according to his own choice.

There is a village just down the Ohio River from me that, during Christmastime, they display an Orthodox cross and your garden variety cross. And by garden, in mean the Garden of Gethsemane. Although there is not a menorah nor a star and crescent. Not as a slight or warning to Jews and Muslims, but as a total lack of Jews and Muslims. Those symbols are not there because those who venerate those symbols are not there.

We should not ban religion in any way. Seems to me that we need all the religion we can get.

A good idea.

We shall start with removing all these huge Menorahs which can be seen in almost any western city on Hanukkah
