interesting phenomenon and a number of them are far more capable, thoughtful, resolute and less egotistical than paul hackett, the iraqi war vet marine who ran as a dem and almost beat the republican candidate for an ohio house seat.

I view this as a good thing. In my opinion, the Democratic Party has been hijacked by persons that can only be characterized as extremists. Perhaps if enough folks (veterans or not) with more realistic views of the world were to actively participate in BOTH parties, we and the country as a whole would be a lot better off. The current crop of politicians make my skin crawl, especially those who are entrenched and have been for decades. I sincerely question the ability of those who have been in Congress for a lifetime (and act suspiciously like they are bordering on senility) to make rational decisions regarding the security and prosperity of the United States. I hope more men and women like the Sergeant Major described in the article participate in politics. This article has made me think very hard about my own participation and perhaps I should get more active as well and by that I mean more than just vote.....certainly food for thought.

yes you are very correct. it is promising news. the current crop is just depressing, i mean its like we've got one political party in the country right now, and that's the republicans. the dems all leapt over the cliff like lemmings with their leaders, dean, pelosi, murtha and kerry.

hey, whether you run for the school board, mayor, state rep or even House Rep, its good for you and good for the community. we need new leaders, desperately.

I couldn't agree more. The Democrat party is hardly anything that it was pre-Carter. They used to actually stand for something. Now they are just a splintered bunch of extremists groups who rarely can manage to come together on anything, and stand only for being against anything Republicans are for.

Meanwhile, the moderate voice is unrepresented.

This isn't a phenomena, the Democratic party made it a priority to find Vets that would run on their ticket and promote an anti-Iraq war agenda. They believe that their words will have more weight and convince more people that they are right. They also believe that they can use the argument ending phrase, "They were there, you were not so you cannot understand like they do!"

The problem for the Dems is that there were many more who were there and are not anti-Iraq war than there are who were there and are of their mindset. As Mr. Kerry found out, "being there" does not silence all opposition.

Anybody that knows anything at all about Hackett running in the Ohio House seat race knows that he ran as a Dem with a Republican message. That is why he came close to winning. This time everyone knows what he is and that trick will not work again. Dems don't have the courage to tell the voters who and what they really are. They have to pretend they are just like Republicans in order to be competitive. People in these states like Minnesota need to let the voters know that these candidates are wolves in sheeps clothing. If elected they will support the Reids, Pelosis, Kennedys, the Durbins, the Bidens, the Leahys of the House or Senate. The agenda will be a socialist America and these pretenders will fall right into line with those who will be their leaders promoting this dangerous political and economic agenda for our country.
