It seems like the world is coming closer to a new world war. Constant clashes in the Middle East, growing tension in the South China Sea, the war in Eastern Europe... These are probably the last years of peace. Sooner or later there will be a nuclear war. China, Russia, muslim terrorists... How high are chances that we are getting closer to the end of days?

With America embroiled in civil war, the idea of us riding to the rescue again is a long shot.

Where have you been living?

We have been living with the threat of nuclear war for over 60 years- no closer - and probably further from it now than we were in 1960.

Just lots of fear mongering.

Reagan ended the threat of nuclear war.

Obama brought it back.

it's not likely to be nuclear at all, just an economic inability to buy oil, or inability to control riots. When the foreign investors see that, they'll stop buying our short term bonds, and that is all it will take to finish off the $. NObody works for free. So, when the $100 bill is nothing but toilet paper, there will be nobody hauling garbage, catching prowling dogs, controling criminals, pumping/treating water or sewage, stopping fires, or making gas/fuel, nobody driving trucks,nothing getting hauled. No food, no water, NOTHING

You expect the dollar to be effectively worthless by what year?

You are missing the point. Occupy is correct that these really are only a few locations. We haven't had a war between major powers in 60 years. In contrast, historically, major power wars were so common that we don't even remember many of them. Who but a historian remembers the Anglo-Dutch wars? We really are living in one of the most peaceful times in human history. There's an excellent book about this "The Better Angels of Our Nature" by Steven Pinker that makes a compelling argument that the general level of violence has been going down by many metrics for the last few thousand years.

This is correct, we are currently enjoying the longest uninterrupted era of peace in recorded history. I think WWII finally cured most nations of the historic willingness for wholesale slaughter of their neighbors. What little war we have now is brutal and horrible but the days of body counts in the millions are hopefully behind us.

I doubt it. World War II happened way too long ago and there are few people remembering those atrocious events. We are currently observing redivision of the world, new global powers are emerging who have their own view on the structure of global politics and America is currently under threat.

No one wants to start WW3, save for North Korea and some theocrats in Iran.

However were a major military power able to find a way to save a small percentage of their population, and carry out a nuclear attack, then there is always the risk.

World War III is not a matter of if but a matter of when....we are almost there sadly and the clock is ticking...some can deny it make fun of it continue playing with their toys..... but it's going to happen..
