Existential risk is a serious problem, and the Great Filter is a serious issue, which we aren't doing enough about although we could be doing a lot more to deal with it. However, nuclear war is unlikely to be a large fraction of that risk, and moreover, a nuclear war very soon is unlikely. Question: suppose someone offered to make a $20 bet with you that no state-level nuclear exchange will occur in the next 5 years, would you take that bet?

I hate to break it to you, but the Muslims already have nukes. Pakistan started their nuclear program in 1972 and exploded a bomb in 1998. There really isn't much we can do to stop a country from developing them unless you are willing to go all George W Bush over them and start a war.

You seem to fear the 'threat' more than the actual harm- or maybe you just want to be in fear.

There is no immediate threat for WW3- other than the United States there is no power that can project power across the globe except for nukes- and that would be suicide.

When the foreign investors see that, they'll stop buying our short term bonds, and that is all it will take to finish off the $. NObody works for free.
