A lot of Democrats support either a flat tax or a fair tax, but most just want a complete review and a complete overhaul to weed out the good from the bad and the ugly. The flat tax, as proposed, would still allow exemptions based on income (so here we go again). The fair tax would remove all other taxes of any kind whatsoever, and of course the danger with that is trying to calculate projected revenue. Treasury could come up ahead of the game or far short when the final tally is in. Eventually, something in between is probably what will happen.
No.. they support a graduated tax in all cases... or a tax they label as flat, with exceptions for the lower incomes, which by definition is NOT a flat tax
I do not support anything in between.. as anything in between would be selective equal treatment
As to who supports what, I'm not talking about Washington legislators. I'm talking about what the people want regarding tax reform.
Excuse me? Jealousy? I couldn't give a shit what some billionnaire hedge fund manager does with his money, except I want him to pay his fucking taxes on it. Got it?
Those billionaires carry the largest burden of taxes - and rightly so. Got it? But, they are not evil people.... nor are they a different 'class'. We, as a nation, were set up to be a classless society, one in which - no matter what your background - you could succeed. Class based societies are those in which you cannot move from a 'working' class to a 'middle' class. Those are not our ideals. Those terms are tools that politicians use to divide people. When, in fact, we should be united against the corrupt bastards who are destroying our nation. But, hey, as long as they have the right letter after their name, let's just keep whining about the other 'side'.
It is moronic.
Then why did the Treasury shrink? The Statistics of Income data on tax-free, high incomes severely understate economic reality because they exclude deferral accounts, including those of hedge fund managers with billion-dollar incomes who can legally report no current income and borrow against their untaxed gains to live tax free. The tax cuts cost $1.8 trillion in the first eight years, according to an analysis by the Tax Policy Center, whose reliability the Bush administration went out of its way to praise.
Along the same lines, I was listening to NPR this morning and they were talking about this Harvard study on income inequality, and how 92% of American people (rich and poor) would rather have the income distribution of Sweden over the US. Did you know that 40% of Americans hold no wealth whatsoever in the form of assets, homes or cash? Do you really think this is a good thing for our country?

Sweden.... Value Added tax of 25%, national income tax rate of 25%, local taxes close to 40%, corporate tax rate of 26%, government spending of over half of GDP
Well... a majority of those polled were idiots
What INDIVIDUALS have is irrelevant.... we have the freedom to succeed that goes hand in hand with the freedom to fail
No way I'm believing even most economist know about sweden's income distribution much less everyday Americans.
most countries without the disparity have no rich to talk of.

Wow, you can't really be dumb enough to say this with a straight face, can you? Why don't you take a time out and research the standard of living in Sweden? Hell, go crazy! Look at all the Scandinavian countries if you don't believe me.

You're serious, aren't you? These things aren't hard to calculate.

The working class wants policies that are favorable for creating private sector jobs - which is the opposite of what is promoted by Obamanomics.
MaggieMae, Propaganda is very powerful when repeated over and over again.
Joe Bageant has an interesting perspective on this.

Yeah...With the exception of the 8% of effete leftist snobs, who can fork out the dough to send their chilluns to bastions of socialistic moonbattery, like Harvard.Along the same lines, I was listening to NPR this morning and they were talking about this Harvard study on income inequality, and how 92% of American people (rich and poor) would rather have the income distribution of Sweden over the US. Like the GOP blocking a bill that removes the tax incentives for moving jobs overseas?

Dickie, instead of parroting the mantra of the Party, why the fuck don't you find out why the GOP voted against.... and ya know, the Dems really should be able to pass shit without needing the GOP to hold their hand.

Repeating a reported news item, from an action yesterday, is parroting a mantra of the party? Someone must have dropped me from the mantra e-mail list.
I know exactly why they voted against it. To please the corporations which they work for. Do you, or do you not support, using tax payer money to subsidize corporations sending jobs overseas? If American job creation is a goal, these subsidies should have been gone a long time ago. Instead they grew when the GOP had both branches.
What exactly is the GOP strategy for job creation? According to their talking points its to cut taxes to the top brackets and cut the deficit, with zero specifics. Nope, what they blocked was even the ability to debate the merits of the proposed bill, which had concrete steps to facilitate the creation of private sector jobs.
