I don't see how one can lay any violence at all at their feet. The Bible did not generate any more violence than there was before, or any more. Neither did Marx. In fact, Marxian communism was dead wrong since it never arose where Marx predicted it would. What seperated the 20th century from the prior centuries was not the level of violence but the efficiency of violence created by industrialization.

Human beings are violent by nature and all of the "reasons" for that are just excuses we use so we can look in a mirror without flinching.
