I'd lose a bit of $ by losing my current 15% locality pay, but I'd get a 10% bonus (based off base salary) to help...plus I suspect the pay would be free from federal taxes.

But wow...the EXPERIENCE would be invaluable. I'd be there for 6 months, 'on loan' to the Army Corps of Engineers.

Excellent. Is civilian pay excluded from Federal Taxes in a war zone? Otherwise, FYI, to be exempted from Federal Taxes while working overseas, you must be out of the country for at least, I believe (going off memory only) 9 months. It might be more. Just throwing that out there as you might want to keep that in mind while trying to make you decision. I agree, the experience would be awsome though!

I'm not sure about the tax issue - but further reading shows I could be eligable for up to 25% Danger Pay, + up to 25% Post Differntial Pay...


All-told, before whatever taxes are removed, It could be a 20-50% pay increase.




But...like I mentioned...just the chance to go and be a part of history is worth the most to me.
