It was down to the wire. Having secured two of the three seats needed to shift the State Senate to a democrat majority, Democrats were "this" close. At stake was what would have been a major feather in the cap for Dems--the unseating Alberta "Walker's" Darling. Her opponent, Sandy Pasch, who was very confident that she would win her challenge against Darling. Pasch took an early lead, to the pleasant surprise of her supporters in the crowd. With each blow by blow update of her lead over Darling, by MSNBCs Ed Shultz, the crowd erupted in exuberant cheers and applause.
Then it happened.
Ed Shultz lamented.."you can't make this stuff up", as the tide began to turn against Pasch. He was right. It all came down to the reporting of one county. Waukesha County. But, Waukesha county appeared to be "holding out" on reporting the election results. Commentator remarked that they were "suspicious", there were accusations being made of voter fraud by democrat leaders, it wasn't looking good for Dems. The Ed Shultz Show carried over through Lawrence O'Donnell, to Rachel Maddows, as the crowd anxiously awaited the final results. But by that time it had become clear that it just wasn't going to happen.
When the final announcement came the crowd was remarkably subdued. A sign read "this is what democracy looks like", and the crowd seemed to accept that democracy worked the way it's suppose to. "You win some we you some" that seemed to be the mood. But they got their shoot. Their voices were heard. They took on republicans in their own back yard. Two seats were gained in the effort. Which is nothing to be ashamed of. On to the next battle.
