Wisconsin Collective Bargaining Law is Working

I thought it was the job of the schools to teach reading, writing and arithmetic. Apparently you disagree.

When the parents refuse to enforce homework and sue if Lil Johnny doesn't get an A or promoted to the next grade?

You can teach all you want. Doesn't mean it's gonna get learned.

Typical "blame the victim" mentality.

Nope....it's more like "blame the teacher" mentality when parents refuse to get involved in their children's education. It used to be that open houses and PTA organizations were overflowing. Now parents view schools as a babystting facility.

The kids who do well in school are the ones whose parents actually get involved, have regular contact with the teacher, make homework a priority at home and punish their kid if they get in trouble at school. THOSE are the kids who perform well in school. If their parents don't give a shit what kind of message does that send?

.

Well, what do you know..

You mean when we cut the pay to teachers, we can pay them less?

Wow. What a revelation.

:clap2:

WaAAahahhh WAaaahhh Waaaah!

It worked, get over it. The Unions were part of the problem and now they will never be again. Also money being stolen from tax payers to be donated (68milion to Obama in 2008) is over.

The only thing that "worked" is that the state and local districts are trying to balance their budgets on the backs of the working men and women.

Listen dumbass. If you think teachers, garbage collectors, road workers, jailers, etc don't EARN their pay you are totally clueless as to what they go through to earn their money. Nobody's stealing a damned thing.

The money that is donated to politicians (and yes, the GOP gets union money too, dipshit) is AFTER it is earned so the workers can do what they want with their money and you should just STFU about it. If union workers do not want to have union dues going to politicians then they have a legal right to withold that portion of their dues. And many do.

If you went to college you really should ask for your money back. It was a waste.

Class dismissed.

.

Didn't you get the memo? Teachers aren't as valuable in the 21st century, because an educated workforce isn't as important in the 21st century.

Teachers aren't valuable because they don't teach. The principle skill is carrying placards down at the state capital.

Yep, and there's no change in performance. They are just as bad after as they were before.

First off I strongly disagree with the premise that ALL teachers are bad.

But on the other hand....Now that politics was put into the hiring process do you think that it will improve? Now administrators can fire at will and give jobs to their friends and relatives. "Fuck performance, give my cousin the job!!"

.

I haven't said all teachers are bad. However, as a group they suck. One reason for that is the fact that the bad ones can't be fired.

Politics has always been part of the hiring process. That is one of the major problems with public schools. The only way to get politics out of the hiring process is to privatize the schools.

Actually, she's correct. The number one issue with the public school system is parents.

On the other hand, my Governor, DEMOCRAT Andrew Cuomo, NEGOTIATED concessions from the unions, without destroying them, got a good deal, got the budget in order,

and has a 60% approval rating.

But nobody talks about him.

Link to specifics backing up your 'got a good deal' statement?

Cuomo works in a big union state. Unions and democrat voters form downstate are his base.
Wisconsin's public worker unions were not destroyed. They just lost the ability to extort good deals for themselves and screwing the taxpayers.

Ok so because parents in general don't care enough for their children's education we should keep doing the same thing that has failed for decades and retain the current system of teacher tenure , high wages and unbelievably great benefits?
IN the business world one usually pays more for a good or service if that good or service increases in value to the customer.
In the unionized world, one continues to pay more even if the product or service becomes lesser in value.

But NOW you want to put politics in the firing process? Surely you aren't naive enough to think administrators are above getting rid of even competent teachers to make room for friends and family?

School privitization is another matter entirely. Actually Thomas Jefferson (you know, one of our Founding Fathers?) was an early advocate for a public school system.

Jefferson believed that education should be under the control of the government, free from religious biases, and available to all people irrespective of their status in society. Others who vouched for public education around the same time were Benjamin Rush, Noah Webster, Robert Coram and George Washington.

You might be surprised to learn that we've already tried making all schools private. Guess what? It didn't work.

Until the 1840s the education system was highly localized and available only to wealthy people.

Oh here we go....The poor abused public sector worker card....Stow it.
That shit is over.
Gee I wonder why it's ok for a union worker to take their money and what they do with it we should all just shut the fuck up, but when an evil republican like Newt Gingrich has a credit account at Tiffany's it becomes national news AND we get to mind HIS business and tell him how to spend HIS money.

Ok, now that we got past the nonsense of your post the point that was being made was that no matter what changes you make in the school system, it won't improve anything until you get parents involved again.

That's precisely the way unions have operated for decades. We're trying to rid ourselves of such cronyism.

So then all we're doing then is moving it to the ones who actually do the hiring and firing to make it sooo much easier? Good call. :cuckoo:

Yeah....High wages....Her is just a partial list of teachers and the wages paid for 2011.
This list is available at the Newark Star Ledger website( nj.com.......the link is "new jersey by the numbers)
This list of the teacher pay for faculty from my high school district. The first person on the list is a principle. The rest are teachers and department heads who teach......
FYI there are about 500 faculty in this particular district. Half earn in excess of $90k per year. Two thirds over $75k....SO please do not act surprised when you learn that unionized teachers are highly paid.....Oh, this list DOES NOT include the value of their benefits. That's extra.
