Winners and Losers of 2009

oh yeah - I forgot - and for helping the party that nominated her for VP LOSE a seat they've held for about 150 years - LOL.

ScuzzaLibrul would have been a loss for us, so short of winning the seat outright like we will next time, this was good for us and the USA

LOL - sure wasn't good for Republicans - you remember - the folks who handed her the spotlight. Biting the hand that fed you is typically not a good political strategy.

Was it good for America? I guess you can say that it was good if you want to see a Democratic Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Yeah losing a Republican who threw her fat weight behind the Dem was a real loss for us.

Also thanks for highlighting how Dems have subverted local election process. We're dealing with that now

The real loser of 2009?

The American People.

The real winner of 2009?

Fascism.

Come on...

Somebody other than CrazyFrank must have some suggestions for Republican Winners for 2009?

I should highlight the Democrat incumbent in Westchester County, carried by Obama by 27%, had no scandal, no indictment, nothing improper other than being an elected official in a Party headed up by the Lunatic Fringe of Obama, Pelosi & Reid.

Third time you posted this...still don't get your point

Is that the best reply you got?? No wonder the Republicans had such a pathetic year

Wow!

Digging kinda deep there aren't we?

Christie and McDonnell were winners at the state level but have no national impact. When you have to dig out County Executives it must be a horrible year for Republicans

Actually, Palin lost that one.

She gave up a sure Republican victory to hand over a 150 year Republican seat to the Democrats.

Shrewd political move there

No, see, the white guy behind Obama is the former Democrat Governor of NJ. See that? Former Democrat Governor.

Obama carried the state by 14% not a year before.

How much power/influence they have is entirely up to them. They have been given the opportunity to participate in government and have been elected to do so. If they CHOOSE to just sit in the corner holding their breath, it's THEIR choice. And maybe that's why so many people think they are such losers.

Sit in the corner? They've been voting against big-government legislation. Of course, they have no power to effect the outcome, but they haven't just been sitting in the corner. And the closed-door meetings the Democrats and Obama have indicates that bipartisanship is dead. The power and influence the GOP will have is now entirely up to the Democrats.

Yup - sit in the corner. They've been invited repeatedly to participate in the formation of legislation. They've taken the position that if tyhey can't get everything they want into the legislation, then they will not participate - they'll just sit over in the corner whining and making up false statements to make about the legislation.

Americans aren't fooled. They really want to support Republicans in order to create yet another check and balance in government. But the GOP's little hissy fits are just not allowing them to.

The GOP should be able to make considerable gains in 2010 and perhaps even win a senate majority. But they are so busy whining and moaning that they've already LOST a seat they held for 150 years.

They need to get their crap together if they want to make use of the advantage that historically goes to the minority party in off-year elections.

My hope is that the GOP remains fractured and a 3rd party arises from the ashes. I'm happy the GOP is actively voting against big-government legislation, but I don't trust them anymore.

This past gov of NJ?
Jon Corzine, 58, is currently the Democratic governor of New Jersey. A former CEO of the Wall Street investment firm Goldman Sachs
~
Though he prevailed in New Jersey’s gubernatorial elections, ethics questions shadowed Corzine’s campaign. Among the more damaging revelations was that Corzine had forgiven a $470,000 loan to his erstwhile girlfriend, Carla Katz, who also happened to be the head of the state’s largest employee union, the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Not only did Corzine omit all mention of the loan on his Senate expense reports, but just six months after issuing the loan to Katz, the CWA endorsed his 2000 Senate campaign. Corzine’s scrupulousness was again called into question when news broke that, just over a month after announcing his candidacy for governor, Corzine had invested $7 million in Ichan Partners LP, a privately held hedge fund managed by New Jersey casino operator Carl Ichan. The investment was in direct violation of New Jersey's Conflicts of Interest Law, which prohibits governors from holding financial interests that pose a “reasonable risk of the public perception of a conflict of interest” with gambling companies. Corzine reportedly made $100,000 from his investment. Pressed about his controversial involvement with Ichan, Corzine refused to answer questions about his financial partners.

Corzine’s questionable financial dealings did not end there. After announcing his decision to seek a U.S. Senate seat, Corzine had promised to place his assets into a blind trust so as to avoid potential conflicts of interest. But in 2005, only $86 million of his $262 million holdings was in a blind trust. The Record newspaper of Hackensack, NJ, also reported in 2005 that Corzine, as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, had voted for a 2004 tax treaty with Japan that earned him a large tax break. Corzine insisted that he had derived no economic benefit from the treaty, but Corzine’s critics disputed that defense, noting that Corzine’s reluctance to disclose his assets made it impossible to come to a clear judgment about the ethicality of his role in the treaty’s enactment. Upon winning the election, Corzine conceded that he faced a sizeable credibility gap on ethics issues. “We have to make it a reality that we are committed to the public trust,” Corzine said. “. . . The public trust needs to be restored, and I have every intention of making sure that occurs. And as I said on election night, I want to be held accountable.”

Yaah I am sure his being a demoncrat is the only reason he lost?
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Heck the guy that lost to Frankin could have beat Crizine.

What were Corzines polling numbers when Obama was winning NJ by 14% ??

His approval was in the low 30%. Corzine was hated in NJ before Obama was even a candidate for President.

Now tell me about those Westchester County Executives? That is super interesting

No offense, but this is CNN no? (Communist News Network) CNN? Should we even care what they think? Hmm?
