All that money to erect them so they can kill an unknown number of birds and they don’t last all that long? Who knew? [Maybe the companies that foisted them on us?]

From Center of the American Experiment’s web site: the National Renewable Energy Laboratory says the useful life of a wind turbine is only 20 years.

In contrast to wind, coal, natural gas, and nuclear plants can run for a very long time. Coal and natural gas plants can easily run for 50 years, and nuclear plants can be updated and retrofitted to run for 60 years. This has profound implications for the cost of electricity on a per megawatt hour basis that seemingly no one is talking about.

Much more about this @ Exposed: A Key Element of the Wind Energy Fraud w/more links.

But this is the renewable energy that keeps people employed. When they fall down, someone has to come in a fix them...

Real dumbass post. Most mechanical constructs have a limited lifespan, at which time the parts that are worn out need to be replaced. It is the same for gas or coal fired plants. But with the mills, it is far simpler. Simply take the blades off, swing the turbine down, put a new one up, put the blades back on, and send in the old one to be rebuilt. Just more nonsense from a bunch of idiots. Wind is here to stay, and is currently the cheapest form of generation as measured by the kw/hr delivered. After 2020, we will see huge wind farms going up all over the US where there is high wind potential.

In the Altamont pass we have had wind turbines for 25 or more years. This is just a weak attempt to bolster coal.

What stopped people from doing so the 8 years Obama was in office?

Nothing! We been going strong for the last 20 years or so.

Wind turbines are expensive to maintain, repair, and operate. Wind power, and solar power are significantly more expensive than fossil fuels. That is why when you select a "green energy" provider, that may include UP TO 10% solar, and wind you will be at least a few cents per KWH more, and that adds up.

It is a JOKE.

Odd that my power is cheaper and is totally solar. I have battery power for night time. And the wind turbines here are long ago paid for and produce free power. Except cons have to pay double if they decide to use it.

Oh, that's exactly the same as buying it from a utility.

My neighbor is a licensed electrician, installed his solar panels himself, and bought all the components wholesale, and even with the GOVERNMENT (taxpayer) rebates his payback period is still 15 years.

Your neighbor did not install a proper amount of panels for his home then. My system was paid for in 2 and half years.

Wow, a statement with no backup.

Things with moving parts wear out? Who would have thunk it?

I hear they last a lot longer when made from elephant tusks.

Growth of wind power in the United States - Wikipedia

After 2020, when we get rid of the present whores in DC, and give the orange clown an orange jumpsuit, we can put the grid into areas with very high wind potential, combine that with grid scale storage, and decrease the cost of electricity while at the same time increasing our usable capacity.

Have to love all this new technology they we are inventing

The generators and turbines in traditional power plants wear out too. They rebuild them and keep going. The difference here is that there is nothing but a generator so you are essentially rebuilding or replacing the whole thing. However the tower, blades, and everything else are still fine.

You're not very informed as you apparently know nothing of materal fatigue which is why the rotors on helicopters need to be replaced evey so many hours. Wind turbine blades are no different. Solar and wind energy are largely distractions for fools who know nothing of physics and technology. As with electric cars. If you're looking for a real short term solution to energy, look at thorium based fission reactors.
