Cuz y'all damn yankees know neither how to cook, nor eat.:eusa_whistle:

Cause us southerners don't like to run in 100% humidity at 100*F in between our meals of fried chicken, mashed taters, fried okra, rolls, and sweet tea. :D

I think the Southerners have called it, I agree beyond the food. I'd rather die happy at 70 than miserable at 78.

You know, I like the way this thread is going, except that we NY'ers absolutely know how to eat, if not cook! We know all the best places to make reservations. ;)

Seriously, though, poor health seems to correlate to poverty since the eight of the ten poorest states are in the bottom ten in health:

Median Income
New Mexico $40,629
Montana $40,627
Tennessee $40,315
Kentucky $39,372
Louisiana $39,337
Alabama $38,783
Oklahoma $38,770
Arkansas $36,599
West Virginia $35,059
Mississippi $34,473

Montana and New Mexico probably have lifestyles that somewhat mitigate the effects of poverty, which keeps them out of the bottom ten health-wise.

Because the south is poorer.

Duh.

Cuz y'all damn yankees know neither how to cook, nor eat.:eusa_whistle:

I challenge you to show me a more greasy, artery clogging, taste bud igniting epidomy of deliciousness then the Philly Cheesesteak.

I think it is because the south is poorer. More poor people are inclined to live in southern states because the utilities are cheaper. There are people in Louisiana who will die if it freezes and they stay in their homes because they aren't able to keep the cold out and don't have heaters. Seriously.
If it gets below 32 there, they have a complete state of panic.

I also think a lot more retired people tend to move south so they can be in a warm climate and not pay for heat.

The other thing is, it's a cycle. You get lots of poor people in a state, their taxes aren't going to amount to as much, and there's not as much money to spend on public health and other programs that prevent disease or educate people about wellness.

I don't know if those stats include illegal aliens, but I'd be willing to be a lot of illegal aliens are exactly going to be able to afford to go to the doctor, or they might just be afraid to go. (But then how did they get the statistics?)
