If we need to fight a war in Pakistan AND Afgahnistan AND Iraq, where will the troops come from? I don't see how we could move them from the Korean Peninsula as long as that maniac is there. Is there a point when we have no choice but to reinstate the draft?

This crap AGAIN? We won't be fighting a war in Pakistan and last I checked we will be out of Iraq in 2 years.

I do believe we need to increase our military by close to a million though. Which can be done with an all volunteer force. Or has every one forgotten the miltary was that big in the 80's?

Sorry. It's just that Obama keeps talking about al qaeda in Pakistan and he says he will increase troops in Afghanistan. Last I heard, correct me if I'm wrong, Obama said he will leave about 50000 troops in Iraq.
Have we been meeting our recruiting goals? How big is our military now?

Not big enough. Thanks to Clinton. We will not be invading a nuclear armed country. We will shift troops from Iraq to Afghanistan and the number left in Iraq will be decided by Iraq not Obama.

We need about 40 more Army Brigades ( those are about 3k combat troops each) and the support that goes with them. We need to return the 3rd Marine Division to a full Division not a single Regiment. And possibly activate a 4th Marine Division. We need to increase the number of fighter and bomber squadrons we have along with all the support wings that go with that and we need to increase the number of carriers we have back to 16 as well as increase the number of naval combat vessels we have.

All can be done with an all volunteer force.

how many carriers do we have now? I am surprised the number is that low. How many did we have at the end of world war II? we have five in 1941, right?

Think we are down to 10 carriers now. Which is not enough to cover the areas we need and allow for upkeep and emergencies.

At one point we had 23 active Carriers, right after WW2. But none of those were the size of today's carriers. Of course we also had like 8 Light Carriers and a ton of Escort Carriers.

16 is a good number. Allows for upkeep, emergencies and maintaining carriers where we need them.

Our Strategic Bomber force is still mostly B-52's. made in the 50's. We need a new Heavy long range Bomber as well as dedicated Medium Bombers and recon assets we got rid of. We need a new tank killer aircraft, the A-10 is great but old also and the Air Force keeps trying to retire it.

We need a shift in Air Force command away from just fighter jocks to Close Air support. We need more fighters though, more close air and more multipurpose Aircraft.

We need a stronger industry also. If we get in a protracted heavy war we do not have the capability to replace significant loss in Air Craft, Naval or Armored Vehicles. We also do NOT have the infrastructure to even provide small arms ammunition much less the missiles and rockets and artillery shells we will need. We have no steel Industry anymore so quickly run into problems in any significant war that threatens our world wide trading partners. No real ship building Industry so no merchant fleet to help carry out any protracted war we may find our selves in. It is to expensive and to many legal hurtles to flag American now adays.
