Will Socialized Medicine Let Fat People Live?
The reason socialized medicine is the holy grail for statists is that it gives to government bureaucrats the power to decide who lives and who dies.
A free market economy can — at least in potential — pay for anything, because there is theoretically no limit to how much wealth we can create when Big Government leaves us alone. In contrast, under socialism, there is a fixed pie, and the authorities decide who gets a slice and who does not. This could be very bad news for the overweight.
Veteran BBC presenter Michael Buerk has proclaimed that Britain’s NHS should withhold care from those who do not conform to body mass index requirements.
The BBC presenter said that those who are obese may be making a “selfless sacrifice” to stop the country being overpopulated if they die a decade earlier than the rest of the population.
Nazis might have called this “ridding the Reich of useless eaters.”
The veteran broadcaster queried Public Health England’s claim that overweight and obesity-related ill-health costs the NHS £6.1billion a year.
Buerk frets that if fat people live to be old “instead of keeling over with a heart attack at 52,” it will cost the State a lot of money. Therefore they should die.
He added that the “freedom to make bad choices is what personal autonomy, indeed democracy, is all about”, and asked “who is to say longevity is the ultimate goal in life?”
Sounds fair — except that fat people still have to pay for everyone else’s healthcare with their taxes.
Whenever moonbats contemplate an abuse of power, they fall back on the global warming hoax:
“The obese will die a decade earlier than the rest of us; see it as a selfless sacrifice in the fight against demographic imbalance, overpopulation and climate change.”
Now even letting fat people live makes it be too warm out.
Denying them care will certainly save some money:
The NHS estimates that almost a third of adults in the UK are obese, and that one in five children aged 10 to 11 are obese.
To save even more money, simply alter the definition of the term “obese.”
Some may be thinking, “Who cares? I’m skinny.” They may also cut off healthcare to smokers. “Who cares? I don’t smoke.” But the inviolate rule with socialists is that sooner or later they always run out of other people’s money. That means sooner or later they will take healthcare away from you too.
