I think most Americans have learned their lesson. But will they do due diligence in looking at the candidates and their backgrounds of leadership? If there is anything we've learned we need proven leaders who have a work ethic and knows the economy and foreign affairs.

For a nation like the US to end up in a good place as a society, involves leaders making very hard choices and the majority of the population backing up the leader. This hasn't happened in the US since the 40s.

When a nation and its leader always take the easiest road, rather than the right road, then matters get progressively worse. When the population prefers momentary benefit (with long term cost) rather than momentary sacrifice (with long term benefit) then they're going to influence the types of politicians who step up to lead them.

Think of it like a person with a credit card and he starts to spend beyond his means. The easiest route is to take on more credit cards and to borrow from one to pay the other and still live the high life. There are people who do exactly this. We saw this too with rogue traders who bankrupted some Wall Street firms with their bets. As one progresses down this path it becomes harder and harder to correct course and then finally the end comes, a painful end.

That's the path we're on. It's not the politicians' fault, it's the people. The politicians react to the signals sent by people.

We have an appointment with our day of reckoning, it's coming steadily closer and the fault is entirely with the people.
