I fail to see how championing equal rights for all Americans can be considered treasonous while Trump acts in service of our adversary is considered patriotic.

It's called marketing. We have been turned into a nation of non thinking consumers. It extends into the political arena. The two parties are brands and every 4 years we get new slogans. It's all driven by emotion. People go to great lengths, mentally speaking to defend their brand from attacks.
