Why should the rich pay taxes at a lower rate than the rest of us?

FLAT tax belief, FLAT earth earth belief.

The similarities are obvious.

Both are based on willful ignorance

Actually, not everything would be taxed. The basic needs are exempt (food medicine etc), read up on the facts people

Just about anything would be better then the current system. 50% don't pay anything. Do you really believe that half of this country of 11% unemployment cannot afford to pay taxes?

I find it mind numbing that we are in an uproar over this.

We have 50% that can pay and legal don't
We have 1% that can pay and legal do

Which one do you think should pay more?

And before you say that rich cheat on their taxes, that realm of frauding the government doesn't just exist at the top of the pay scale

Now you're talking about a VAT tax, not a FLAT tax.

The first X amount of income could be exempt from any income taxes.

the first amount X of income is ALREADY exempt from any income taxes, amigo.

Assuming the same amount of income continues to be exempt from taxes, then the same percent that some are bitching about would STILL be exempt from taxes.

A VAT is added to every stage of production, it even taxes the transportation of raw materials because shipping them adds value. A flat tax is an income tax that is not indexed to wages. A sales tax is collected at the final sale.

Assuming that you are not an idiot, which is actually a pretty bug assumption, the US has an EIC that goes to people who make less than a certain amount. It is actually possible for a person who falls into this category to not only not pay an income tax, they will also get a check from the government for more money that can actually exceed what they paid in SS and Medicare taxes, yet they will still receive benefits from those programs when they are eligible.

On top of that, the Bush tax cuts actually expanded the pool of taxpayers that are exempt from income taxes, and that was supposed to expire last year. Since no one wanted to raise taxes during a recession that got extended without any debate other than a few idiots who tried to claim that the Bush cuts only went to rich people.

If we went back to the Clinton tax rates only about 30% of wage earners would be exempt from income taxes. That is why I laugh when Obama tries to claim he passed the largest tax cut in history for the middle class. He does not even come close.

You should not tie taxes to consumption because it will lead to inflation.

There should be a flat rate tax for everyone, with an exemption of the first $20-$30K for everyone so that the so-called poor get some benefit but they cannot claim tax writeoffs (mortage/dependents) on taxes since they don't pay.

Also, the social security tax rate should be lowered but count against every dollar made, even for poor people since they are getting social security someday.

They don't pay income tax at a lower rate than the rest of us.

It depends on if its ordinary income or capital gains income.

Wrong.

Earned income and capital gains are 2 completely different things according to the tax code.

You would pay the same capital gains rate as everyone else

Funny thing is, I believe this is one of the same twats in another thread, bitching and moaning about how "the rich" don't work for their money, because the IRS terms capital gains "unearned income". NOW suddenly she wants to conflate the two.

Leftists are SOOO consistent. :eusa_hand:

The flat tax kills three birds with one stone ... Greatly simplifies the tax code, does away with the IRS and is cost to the US Government (and by extention, US Population), and gets illegals to pay taxes if they want to be here
Provided the 16th is repealed.

They do not need to repeal it, just stop collecting it.

Never, EVER leave a law on the books that you don't want the politicians using and enforcing somewhere down the road. It just begs for trouble.

That's primarily because they derive their incomes from investments, rather than wages, you buffoon.

You know who else also derives a good share of their incomes from investment income?...Retirees.

Why is it that liberoidal dochebags hate old folx?

You did not answer the question.

Why should the rich pay taxes at a lower rate than the rest of us?

They don't.
Even that lying assclown, Warren Buffett, was lying when he said his secretary paid 30%.
