He worked for that pension as well as my husband who served 25 years.She had Social security but my FIL was a good provider ( not rich by any means) and had enough saved without social security .. He worked for Met life and had life insurance plus retired from the coast guard they lived while alive well below their means and scrimped and saved for that retirement. About the medicare she had Medicare and Tricare so she would had had Tricare if medicare was not available. Hubby is following in his fathers foot steps and we are prepared when he retires and wont depend on Social securityWhile your MIL was ill and living with relatives was she drawing Social Security? Did she have Medicare?

because honestly think it wont be available for us or will be cut way back. Social security was not designed for you to just rely on that. It was to help that you should have saved so you can live comfortably but now people dont save for their retirements and rely on just social security
