Nengmy Vang, the man suspected of gunning down Quirt Sann at her law office on March 22, was in the midst of divorce proceedings with his wife, whom Quirt Sann represented. Vang also allegedly killed two of his wife’s co-workers and a detective before being injured in a standoff with police.

Attorneys who handle divorce cases, among other family law matters, can be especially vulnerable to threats and violence, Kelson said. That’s because couples embroiled in family legal issues often experience strong emotions, might be financially strapped and can be frustrated by limitations on access to their children.

Lawyers have had their offices and cars bombed or shot at and have received letters threatening harm to their families and homes, according to the surveys. Others have been followed or had pets poisoned. In one notable case, a man drove a truck that was on fire and loaded with gas tanks into the office of a lawyer who represented his girlfriend.

....Some state court judges, particularly in rural areas, have a related problem: lax security. Sawyer County Circuit Judge John Yackel has been pushing for increased safety measures ever since the county's clerk of circuit court was murdered last year in a domestic dispute. While the clerk was killed at her home, the incident could just have easily occurred at the courthouse, Yackel said.

Every court should have some type of security.

For those states surveyed 40% reported having been assaulted or threatened.

Many lawyers do this. Also, it's not just attorneys who are targeted. In workers' compensation, Judges have been attacked as well.
Most judges are armed.

Agree, but I'm talking about actual attacks in court. In most workers' compensation courts, for example, there's no security at all. When I worked in the L.A. area, the only WCAB (workers' compensation appeals board) that had a metal detector was the one in downtown L.A. after a Judge was stabbed.

One can guarantee that every congressbeast in DC has a gun handy.

Well, except the really stupid ones.

Many lawyers keep guns and also have body guards.

If they are fighting for the good side, against filth and corruption in high places particularly politics, they certainly need all the protection they can get.

God Bless them.

It's a really nasty job being a judge.

Most judges have concealed firearms permits.

I don't think so, Billy. Some time ago the past couple years an aide to a Congressman was busted for bringing in a gun for his boss. I'll look it up tomorrow and let you know.

I'm not going to search, but several former Senators and congressman fessed up to having a gun in the office after they left Congress.

Considering today's circumstances, I suspect 100% of the smart ones..

When your entire job depends on you fucking people over, it might just be a good idea to have some type of protection on hand.

So, you know my job (or, should I say, "previous jobs", since I am retired?)
