Why not move to Cuba or France if you want socialism?

On these boards it seems assumed that a country is either socialistic or capitalistic but that may not be true. Most modern nations are a mixture of socialism and capitalism. The amount of each varies with the individual country. Can anyone name a country that is pure socialism or pure capitalism today? The word socialism is almost a total political scare-word as used today and it is used to frighten. So can anyone name a total capitalistic or total socialistic country? There just might be one?

There are not any pure systems. Never have been never will be. What is true is that both parties are working towards more economic power for the elite and a much more controlled middle class.

President Obama is working to push us further towards socialism. Anyone who values economic and personal freedom should be concerned about that.

I have to agree with Lemming...Lincoln was an absolute dirtbag. Kennedy was a true player though...lol

the socialist utopian dream  called the Democratic People's Republic of Korea....aka North Korea....central planning at its finest with all kinds of "free stuff"....

More recent research based on North Korea’s domestic documents and not propaganda for the international audience, popularized in 2009 by Brian R. Myers and his book The Cleanest Race and later supported by further academics[71][72] even characterizes North Korea as a far-right national-socialist country heavily influenced by Japan of the 1930s.[73][74]

The structure of the government is described in the Constitution of North Korea, the latest version of which is from 2009 and officially rejects North Korea's founding ideology of communism.[79] The governing party by law is the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, a coalition of the Workers' Party of Korea and two other smaller parties, the Korean Social Democratic Party and the Chondoist Chongu Party. These parties nominate all candidates for office and hold all seats in the Supreme People's Assembly. They have negligible power, as the leader holds autocratic control over the nation's affairs.

North Korea has an industrialised, near-autarkic, highly centralized command economy. North Korea is one of only two states (along with Cuba) with an almost entirely government-planned, state-owned economy. The Central Planning Committee prepares, supervises and implements economic plans, while a General Bureau of Provincial Industry in each region is responsible for the management of local manufacturing facilities, production, resource allocation and sales.[155]
...
Food rations, housing, healthcare, and education are offered from the state for free,[170] and the payment of taxes has been abolished since April 1, 1974.[171] In order to increase productivity from agriculture and industry, since the 1960s the North Korean government has introduced a number of management systems such as the Taean work system.[172] In the 21st century, following a recovery in 1999, North Korea's GDP growth was slow but steady until 2005. Between 2006 and 2011 the majority of years have had negative growth.[173]

I agree completely. And I believe the U.S. between the late 40s and early 80s is a textbook example of a capitalist economy being optimally controlled by socialist regulation. Removal of those regulations is more than any other factor the cause of our present economic problems.

Extreme socialism is communism. Extreme capitalism is fascism, which is the direction the U.S. is heading. Our Country is in desperate need of a strong socialist influence if Democracy is to survive.

five years ago researchers at the Legatum Institute, a London-based nonpartisan think tank, set out to rank the happiest countries in the world...

What's the most prosperous country in the world? Norway. What's it got that the rest of the world doesn't? The biggest bump comes from having the world's highest per capita GDP of $53,000 a year. Norwegians have the second-highest level of satisfaction with their standards of living: 95% say they are satisfied with the freedom to choose the direction of their lives; an unparalleled 74% say other people can be trusted...

joining Norway in the top 10 prosperous countries are its Scandinavian sisters Denmark, Finland and Sweden.
