if the goal is to cut down on sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy then it might make sense for NIH to find out why people don't want to use condoms and find ways to make them more user-friendly.

Maybe that's the purpose of the study--to come up with a material that's more like the real thing. I guess over the years condoms have improved in that regard, but I wouldn't know. Back in the day, STDs weren't so much an issue as getting pregnant and birth control pills were the way to go for that.

It's also true that since several drug cocktails now control the HIV virus, people have become more lax, and AIDS is on the rise once again in this country.

Since I rarely pay any attention to FOXNews, I'm curious if they have always reported on selected government pork projects, or is it just since we now have a Democratic majority and a Democrat for a president that they are trying to make you think these "projects" that make no sense except to the researchers is something new. Getting men to participate in lowering the birth rate is important.
