Why John McCain Lost

Bobby Jindal, That's Where We Go From Here

Is that who they're telling you is the future of the GOP... gotta dump the religious right first unless you want to be the party of the bible belt.

Mccain Is Trash, That's Why He Lost, He's Not A Fighter
He Fights Against His Own Party But Never Against Others, It's A Disgrace, When They Called Oh For Obama I Just Sat There Like
It's Over And Said This Is So Sad Like 10 Times, And I Took The L And Kept It Moving

You know, I disagree with pretty much every position that McCain now embraces. But he's far from trash. And I think he didn't think about his country when he picked Palin as his running mate. But the only thing he refused to do is wallow in the sewers because his name meant more to him than winning.

You are a truly dishonorable person. McCain's done more for his country in ten minutes of his life than you have in all of yours.

McCain lost because Bush was SO terrible that Americans were willing to vote a black man with an Arab name in as president. And because the GOP has not been consistent in its values for the past 8 years.

I've been hearing this from right wingers the last couple days. They are trying to find their new identity.

And they never had the values they preached. Those are wedge issues Rove made up 20 years ago.. LOL.

WHY SHOULD THE PARTY DUMP ANYONE WHO THINKS ABORTION IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE? THE GOP IS VERY DIVERSE

Diverse? Hardly... that's one of the reasons you lost. And where in my post did I say the word abortion? I said "religious right". And the reason is you can't run a "G-d, guns and gays campaign in a year when "it's the economy, stupid".

I don't have to know you. I stand by what I said. What you're angry about is McCain wouldn't wallow and eat rats to win...

Actually, when CNN did their "magic wall" breakdown of how people voted, it was pretty interesting to notice one thing.....

The old people (mainly) voted for McCain, and the young ones (mostly) voted for Obama. It seemed that support for McCain went up quite a bit for the over 45 crowd.

I guess this means the Republicans really ARE the "Grumpy Old People".

There needs to be an understanding that the way to reduce abortion (hopefully to zero) has to be in a manner that does not limit people's rights.

If we could reduce abortion to zero without limiting anyone's rights (without reducing personal liberty) through support, adoption, raising minimum wage, health care ..... would you support a candidate who could do that?

If the religious right is intent on outlawing abortion (making it a legal issue instead of a moral issue) then the party that likes to talk about liberty and freedom will continue to have some severe disconnects in it.

Why cant we just leave abortion the way it is, why do people feel they need t tell someone else what choice they can make, its that person that has to live with that decision the rest of their life.

That's the left's position.

And we want to lower the number of abortions too. Maybe instead of trying to ban abortion, conservatives will work with us on that goal. Then abortions can stay legal but no one gets them.

The conservatives won't work with you on this issue. They want to let abstinence only be the one sex education class that can be taught, but, if they would teach once in a while about condoms and other contraceptives, I'd be willing to bet that the abortion rates would go down significantly.

Nope......if it ain't in strict compliance with (their view of) the Bible, it ain't worth doing (according to conservatives).

Unfortunately, "staying the course" isn't always a good idea.

Abortion rates have already gone down significantly. It tracks with reduced poverty and education.

For example through 2006:

That said, teen pregnancy has seen an uptick in the very recent years.

Factors Accounting for the Recent Decline in Teen Pregnancy

NCHS' 2002 National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) shows trends in behaviors underlying the reductions in U.S. teenage pregnancy rates through the early 2000s. During 1995 to 2002, the percent of female teens who had ever had intercourse declined significantly (among ages 15-17) or was stable (among ages 18-19). During the same time period, the percent who used contraception at last sex rose from 71 to 83 percent. According to recent data on high school students from CDC's Youth Risk Behavior Survey (2007), increases in contraceptive use and decreases in sexual activity stopped after 2001. These may be among the factors accounting for the upturn in teenage birth rates in 2006. Findings from Cycle 7 of the NSFG (available in late 2009) are expected to help explain the most recent trends and variations in pregnancy rates and the behavioral, social, and economic factors that account for them.

Education and wealth can make a person prevent an unwanted pregnancy?

I guess we know which one Palin's daughter suffers from a lack of.......

Especially with her mother ripping off the people of Alaska............

No wonder Palin sounds like a redneck.

Probably more accurate to say that poverty and poor education tend to correlate positively to teen pregnancy.

I am a registered independent with conservative views. I didn't vote this year.

The rhetoric coming from both sides was ridiculous. I don't know if you've noticed, but American presidential elections run in cycles. First, the Republicans take the White House, everybody bitches and complains about how the economy is so bad, so the Democrats seize their chance and promise that they are the saviors of the country who will fix everything. The Democrats get elected but guess what? The bitching continues. Next election, people decide that the Democrats are to blame for the shitty economy, so they vote Republican. Then the Republicans take over...and STILL, people keep bitching. Has it ever occurred to anyone that no political party is going to give you anything you ask for, or solve the world's problems? Politicians run for president because they want POLITICAL POWER. The Republicans promise a strong economy, the Democrats promise free shit for everybody, and we get neither. Surprised? I'm not.

The racial overtones of Election 2008 pissed me off the most. Now that Obama won the White House, a large majority of the African American community is strutting around, happy that they'll no longer be forced to give up their seats on the bus. I say, when it comes to discussing serious issues, fuck race..."Racial" anything is the most outdated, ridiculous, unnecessary, partisan crock of shit that could ever be brought to the table. Anytime I hear this shit about how somebody feels Obama could understand their plight best because of skin color, I always say, "The 1960s called...they want their social issues back." I mean, seriously. Obama is a politician just like the rest of them, meaning he's in it for the money. Voting for him just because he's black is retarded. Entirely unsurprising, but still retarded.

Having said that, I didn't like McCain either. So I just stayed home from the polls.

I've heard a lot of theories...his pick of Palin...his insinuation that cutting middle class taxes was socialist...his ties to Bush...his age...his stupidity over the economy...

But really, as any student of marketing knows, fear only works to sell a product for so long. Americans are tired of being scared into voting. McCain's entire platform was based on fear.

Learn something, cons.

IMO John McCain lost this election because of his failure to send a consistant message that resonated with the American people. His message constantly changed with the prevailing winds and it appeared to the public at times as if his campaign was in disarray. Taking into account that his campaign on both a strategic and tactical level was managed terribly as can be seen in the constant leaks, inability to stay on message and address issues. Further when the crisis in the market hit, the McCain campaign from a tactical standpoint looked totally unprepared and by suspending the campaign it appeared more like a stunt especially when John McCain went to Washington and supported the bailout. IMHO the McCain campaign missed a golden opportunity to seperate himself from Barack Obama by supporting the bailout and had he gone to Washington and not supported the bailout he would have been able to speak to the 65% of the public that did not support it. The infighting between the many factions working on his campaign from the Romney people to the Huckabee and McCain staff simply did not mesh well. IMO the motives of some members of this staff as it applies to Sarah Palin were less than honorable and many of them were looking forward to future jobs with respective candidates. In conclusion the McCain campign lost because of their lack of a consistant message, poorly managed campaign, and bad strategic thinking, not to mention they were completely outclassed in funding and message in this election by the Obama campaign IMO.

maybe it was the "my fellow prisoners" slippage in his speech

I know you are trying to not come across as racist, but from an "enlightened" perspective that's how this statement sounds.

Were you to take an African-American studies course at a college you would learn that race is still an important issue today. Institutionalized racism still exists, not to mention racist points of view throughout the country. There is even racism among minorities. The Civil Rights movement was a hallmark is racial issues in this nation, but it wasn't the end. There are still black men and women who receive harsher sentences, are treated poorly by the authorities, aren't promoted in their careers, and have fewer opportunities because of poverty and how it affects their culture. And this is just the tip of the racial iceberg in this country. Obama's election into the Oval Office is another big step in racial issues, but that doesn't mean institutionalized racism no longer exists.
