why is prostitution illegal?

Aw, if I was to explain market reform from the progressive era you would foam at the mouth and call me a socialist.

DK: I thought that a pointless, irrelevant comment about liberalism and the marketplace was a perfectly rational response to this...

I'm with you on this one quad. Guns SHOULD be legal and freely provided for all by the government as part of a citizen crime watch program. Good idea.

Too late and

No, I wouldn't want my daughter to be a prostitute, but that doesn't mean prostitution should be illegal. Most people wouldn't want their daughters to be strippers either, but that's legal.

So it would not be ok for your daughter to be a prostitute, but it is ok for someone's daughter?

Prostitution should be legal. Adults should be free to do as they please with other consenting adults. The government shouldn't be the citizens' baby-sitter.

Ooops. I slipped on a bar of soap that I left on the bathroom floor. How foolish of me. There should be a law. Have the government outlaw soap unless it is "soap on a rope". Well. Perhaps we can allow traditional bars of soap to exist as long as there are warning labels "Caution: Soap can be hazardous if left on a bathroom floor."

Well, let's see. Prostitution is left up to the states - the federal government hasn't stepped in to that one yet. Personally, I think most things in America should be that way. But I digress.

Yes, you could legalize prostitution and tax it. (BTW - ever notice how every liberal wants to legalize stuff and then TAX THE HELL OUT OF IT!!!!!!) You could regulate prostitution, require health cards, etc. I still wouldn't be going, but I suppose I see the logic in a state legalizing it.

Didn't stop some republican governors from approving reservation casino's and TAXING THE HELL OUT OF IT!!!! :p:

All I want from the law is a little consistency.

I don't understand why it's illegal to be a prostitute, but legal to be a lawyer.
