Why is Heaven so desirable to so many...

Because it makes death easier to cope with.

The thought of dying and that’s it, is terrifying to most people.

Why is Heaven so desirable to so many...

The fantasy ALWAYS outshines reality.

Just ask Trump about his relationship with Stormy.
From a Darwinian point of view there is a functional advantage in believing in a power greater than man. If this were not the case man would have never believed in God in the first place or persisted in that belief. To believe otherwise is to deny Darwinism. Hence man was made to worship something. The only choice we have in the matter is choosing what we will worship.

Agreed.

Human communal practices, organizational skills and knowledge REQUIRED "religion" to develop to the point we are at.

That said, perhaps the time is ripe for us to use the knowledge gained to date, put the ancient stories in to proper perspective, and drive this fucker back to the stars.

That wasn't exactly what I was getting at, Joe.

You do understand that as a rule functional advantages are a good thing, right.

Absent a belief in God man will elevate one of its own to the status of god. Freedom and liberty cannot exist without virtue and morality and virtue and morality cannot exist without religion and a belief in a higher power.

Sorry bout that,

1. Us humans are thoughtful as a family of ants on an ant hill.
2. The most likely reason this world isn't burnt to hell is because many people trust in God.
3. When those people are taken away, have mercy.
4. And they will be taken away some day, might be soon.
5. When that day gets here don't be looking to me for what you can do now.

Not true.

Freedom and liberty thrive when virtue and morality are decided in the privacy of the mind of each individual and behavior is ruled by dynamic, agreed upon, Civil Law.

The extreme proof is a quick comparison of a secular society guided by a civil constitution like the good ol' USA, against any society past or present that is governed by Sharia Law.

Sounds very morally relativistic to me.

That's a slippery slope, Joe.

So if society decides slavery, forced abortions and genocide of the Jews should be civil law, you'd be cool with that?

Virtue can't be just anything we say. Virtue is beyond man. Virtue exists independent of man. Virtue is.

What determines virtue are outcomes because error cannot stand eventually it fails. Virtue is a standard which exists in nature. It is discovered, not decided upon.

There is a good reason that every communist state that has ever existed was an atheist state.

Religion serves a vital role in society. It does what no government can do. It teaches civility and virtue.

You mean like god drowning nearly everyone in his flood? Virtuous like that?

If that is what you really believe, sure. Is that what you really believe?

But since it isn't, what I wrote is 100% correct.

Religion serves a vital role in society ... It teaches civility and virtue.

the desert religions have never existed without coercion or fraudulent texts to pursue their ill begotten existence and their betrayal of the true religion of Antiquity for their own selfish interests.
