Why is Canada so against a bilateral deal with the U.S?

Why so afraid of a bilateral deal? Aren't we a strong economy with so much to offer?

Canada is destroying you on NAFTA that's why. We screwed you good, millions of jobs, massive unparalleled access and theft. They know Trump will not let them screw America over and our beloved socialism will collapse for the world to see.

Specifically, NAFTA allows Canada to team up with Mexico as smaller/poorer countries that deserve special treatment from the U.S.

I wonder how much of that trade surplus would disappear if the U.S. started making Canada pay for their own defense.

Yeah, don't worry, Canadians make sure U.S companies and workers get "special treatment also". or, "business as usual".

Canada's 2005 refusal to participate in the U.S. missile defense program, despite being a direct beneficiary, was shameful.
