"Why I parted ways with the right"

Ahhhh - on abortion at least, I am "more conservative" than you???
I suspect we are a lot closer on MANY issues than some might imagine. Some conservative posters on these boards have been shocked to find out how much we have in common - that is - if they can maintain a discussion without the strawmen, the ad hom, the personal insults, and the likes.

Gotta agree nodog. Lots of mud slinging and name calling on this board. Jeeze. I have liberal friends, yes I do, who would never stoop to calling me a name and I sure don't call them names. We get into some lively discussions but it always ends with laughing and a beer or two. I don't agree with them and they sure don't agree with me. I'm kind of a mutt as far a pollitics are concerned but I do lean Right.

please see above and add to the list:

The most unintelligent, ad hom, bumper-sticker-mentality rhetoric

I swear, it makes me think that if people of THIS caliber support something, there MUST be something wrong with it.

Whatever happened to the George Wills and William F. Buckley's carrying the intellectual burden of the case for conservatism. They've been replaced by who? Charles Krauthammer, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulture, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann ????????

Seriously - how can you take them seriously.

Lord rest Barry Goldwater...

I LOVE the idea that the right is saying that Little Green Footballs has always been a flaming liberal now...

I find it increasingly hard to understand how a party that represents itself as the beacon of diversity is constantly using the methods that they claim to dispise in order make a point when it comes to those who believe that the Govt. has no more responsibility than what it spelled out in the constitution. and would denegrate those that express anger when they see that Govt. spending money that they themselves are working hard to keep while struggling to pay bills and keep their homes in some cases. I find it very disappointing that the party that has always stood up to using protest as a means for social change would condemn those who use the same method only because they don't agree with message. If being on the right means a Govt. that is held responsbile to the people, and is fiscially responsible for it's bills, and does not stray beyond what it is empowered to do by the constitiution then I proudly count myself among them, the only difference here is this, rather than spend my time condemning those that believe differently, I see that as part of what this nation is and is all about. Perhaps this TEAM mentality that is so pervasive among some needs to end before some begin to see that even though you may not agree on the issues in the end we all are subject whatever path this nation travels.

Lumping in white racialists and libertarians in the same sentence is pretty fucking nuts if you ask me.

There are legitimate, non-racists, libertarian types out there.

However, in my interactions with folks I find the "hip" way to conceal being a racist bastard is to cloak yourself in Libertarianism and "State's Right's" arguments. I think that's the real reason that the libertarian point of view hasn't caught on more. Its being soured by racists that use it as a cover for their own issues.

I have rarely met a racist black person who leans Libertarian (and there are quite a few).

I totally agree Navy, but you jput it mildly, the "tolerant" party of the left doesn't just condemn those they disagree with, they seek to destroy them. I've never seen such a hate filled vitriolic group of people in my life.

......

And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.

I won’t be going over the cliff with them.

This is a parody.

I'm no great fan of FoxRushBuchanan OR of BushCheneyHalliburton, but the whinging from the ObamaNPRPelosiTreeHuggers is hurting my ears.

Support the Libertarian Party and they'll all STFU.

The rightwing viral emails I get are simply amazingly disgusting.

I am amazed that supposedly intelligent people would generate and distribute such things with such enthuiasm.

I get them becuase of past coworkers and I did not discuss politics at work.
They apparently assumed I was a rightwingnut since I was an ok guy.

I tried to give a rep, but it wouldn't allow.

Although I don't agree, this is the most substantive post I have seen you write.

Good job.

You have to be part of the right before you can part with them RW

So tell us, what hatred/conspircay/Obama Bashing have you done?

NONE?? Then you were never part of the right. Just a plain old conservative that fell for the leftist propaganda. Vote Republican next time around and shut the F up Or we GOP'ers will show you the meaning of Fascism!!!!

Wait--my boot was suppose to stomp your face and not your ass? You left wing sicko!!

1,2,3,4,5,7,8 and 10 if you supplant 'Obama' with 'Bush', all seem to be more liberal values than conservative ones.

Well Rinata, OL/BO is way left and he sure wants to spread my and your and every working persons wealth. He was very upfront about that during the campaign. You remember Joe the Plumber I'm sure.

I have a big problem sharing my hard earned money. Don' t care if its for Dems, Reps or Independents. If I want to give to charity I will do so.

I deeply resent having the Govt tell me that I have to support deadbeats. People who have made bad decisions in their lives. People who have no problem churning out babies that they don't have to support. People who use every loophole they can find to get my and every hardworking taxpayers dollars. Talk about waste and fraud. It abounds in Medicare and Welfare.

The Dems had control of our Congress for 40 years and thats why we have all this social BS where hardworking folks are forced to take care of those that have no sense of responsibility at all and have no problem sticking there greedy hands out to collect the taxpayers hard earned dollars.

Less fortunate??? Thats a matter of opinion.

Krauthammer is liberal socially and will be dumped out of the pack once it vbecomes common knowledge on the right.

Actually, no

Right Libertarians are more common in America than people realize. The only problem is their individualistic streaks. They could not stick together on an issue to save themselves.

Thus their attachment to the Conservative movement and their willingness to vote for Republicans based on economic policies.

I think you are mistaken on this one.... See the civil rights act of 1964 about all of the Democrats that voted against blacks... This has been covered several times but I guess you don't want to acknowledge it... Don't have time to go through all of your other opinions... especially if they are misguided and bias as this one....

What does that have to do with 2009?

There were also Republicans who voted against blacks. It was a North-South issue not a Democrat-Republican issue. But this has all been covered on several threads and you continue to intentionally misinterpret history

The southern racists split with the Democratic Party in the 60s and 70s over civil rights and school desegregation. They joined the Republican Party and now contribute to the GOP's solid south.

At least the Democrats had the balls to throw 'em under the bus.

Damn!!! You can't actually believe that every person in trouble falls into one category?? That's just not reasonable. Like I said, do you actually think that I worked as hard as I did all these years just to help people that don't deserve it?? That would be crazy.

Of course there are deadbeats out there. I have a 26 year old nephew (by marriage) that I have been close to since he was a child. He grew up to be the laziest con artist I have ever met in my life. But I have stood by him since he quit school at 16. Ten long years. I started getting disgusted with him this past May. When I asked him why he just would not get a job he said that he hates getting up early and just wants to watch tv. I was thinking of myself at 26 and I had accomplished a lot!! I got up every day at 5am and I didn't get home any earlier than 7pm. How could anybody in their 20's be content to sleep and watch tv all day?? How boring!!! I was bursting with energy in my 20's.

Well, that did it. I told him not to call or come over anymore until he had a job, and if he did I would call the police. So I totally get what you're saying. But not everybody is like him!!

Rinata, you have made your choice about helping people when you voted. Your side lost, and now you get to abide by the constitutional process. In other words, guess what? Consevatism is not viable, and reform will pass.

Some people just don't get it. No matter how much you preach, how much you threaten, they just will never have a work ethic.
So what do we do with them? Set up a special prison for them? Throw them into the streets and let them beg for their dinner?
We are the wealthiest country on earth. We do not have to be like Calcutta where those who can't compete are living in the streets. People should be provided with a basic sustenance whether they have earned it or not. Three hots and a cot. If they are satisfied with that.....so be it

A basic level of subsistence should be provided to all Americans.
