In a paper published this week in the journal Limnology and Oceanography, the scientists studied the water that gets pumped from the Pacific Ocean into the Whiskey Creek Hatchery, which supplies baby shellfish for most of the West Coast's $110 million-a-year oyster industry.

Here's why: Since 2005, wild oysters along the Washington coast and at the hatchery had been dying inexplicably in their larval stages. At first the suspect was a bacterial disease, but hatchery workers soon noticed that the die-offs only occurred after high winds drew water from the ocean deep.

Did they explain how the oceans are supposedly becoming acidic when it is in fact so busy outgassing CO2? That evidence will turn out to be the same as all so called evidence of acidification....namely polution, or some microbe or another. But you suit yourself and relish in the doom and gloom while it lasts.

On edit, I just noticed that you provided quite outdated information from years ago. Seems that it wasn't acidification that was killing the oyster larvae off. The primary cause was a natural predator, poor management of the stocks, and disease. Not acidification as you so dishonestly claim.

The point, which you so obviously miss is that even if we burned every molecule of fossil fuel on the earth, there wouldn't be enough CO2 emission to move sea water from the alkaline side of the scale over to even the weakest acid. Acidification of the ocean is just one more hoax being gobbled up and regurgitated by the uneducated.

I grew up on ocean waterfront as a kid. there were cyclical booms and busts in all sorts of species. oysters, jellyfish and herring runs come to mind. the fact that a miniscule decrease in pH due to CO2 is being blamed is ridiculous. the natural variation in pH swamps manmade(if there is any) decrease by several orders of magnitude. and even the paper admits it is the wind that plays the biggest factor.

this is a perfect example of how poor peer review has become for anything even slightly related to manmade climate change. you can cobble together any observations and then make a pronouncement at the end that increased CO2 is the cause. it is shameful
