Stability. We are allies with Israel. Arabs hate Jews and Jews hate Arabs. Arabs do not trst nor like people who like Jews. So we have a realtionship with SA to keep Israel and the Arab world from ripping out each other's throats. We also need to insure the free flow of petroleum thorughout the world. Milkitary conflict between Israel and one or more Arab countries would certainly lead to economic turmoil around the world. Oil is the one substance on which the world's economy depends. Saudi Arabia also has strategic significance. Also being friendly with SA also encourages ties with Dubai, another important Arab nation.
I don't trust SA. I think they throw their money and oil around and when we're not looking are funding terrorists.
If I were President, I would issue executive orders to open up all oil leases in the US, and on our offshore waters. We would begin immediate research and development of methanol as an alternative to gasoline.
