Why did the size of government increase under Bush and Reagan and why was the size of government less under Carter and Clinton? Repugs are supposed to be less government but it looks like they are the party of big government.

The size, scope and cost of government has increased under every administration for decades now.

As far as growth of government is concerned, there is absolutely no difference between the two parties.

You have it backwards.
There is a big difference between policy's and government programs.
Under Carter we had a new Department of Energy
A new Department of Education.
Under Obama we have a new Health Care Department and 16,000 new jobs in the IRS.

Under GWB we have Homeland Security, a huge increase in government and a redundant one at that. American's have also feared ID Cards and Government Agents; we generally like local control especially for our schools and police agencies.

Not only was the concept wrongheaded, funding for 'security' has been wasted as each member of congress, senate and house, has gotten government largess for their state and district. So much so that our ports remain vulnerable, our chemical and petrolium industries too, our water supplies and railroads remain easy targets and our borders can't keep out dope.

How can they expect to get each person intent on harming us when they have no concern for their own life? Tim McVeigh was able to procure enough legal comonents to create a horrific explosion and instill fear in us all, and he didn't intend on killing himself.

Bush jr did it in response to 9/11

No one has made a single move to shrink it down.

The last time pols cared one wit about the Constitution was before Wilson.

Since then it's been gimmie gimmie gimmie.

Now the left is pissed at big guv b/c they can't get high or drink raw milk.
