Any Sox fans here? You would think they could win at least one against the Skankers. I root for Boston when my Orioles aren't playing. What's the scoop? Why are they so bad this year?

Red Sox Team ERA: 4.70

Clay Buchholz: 4.56 (lead the team amongst qualifying pitchers)
Jon Lester: 4.82
Felix Doubront 4.86
Josh Beckett: 5.23

Their alleged closer, Alfredo Aceves: 5.36 (w/ 8 blown saves)

Need I say more?

I can...Carl Crawford.

Crawford wasn't producing last year when they were the best team in baseball from May to August.

It's pitching. Period.

Crawford is just emblematic of the kind of meltdown that takes a team effort.

Hate to break this to you all, but Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett were traded to the Dodgers several weeks ago, along with Adrian Gonzalez.

Here is my "educated" explanation as to how and why the Red Sox "blew up" this season:

1. Under-achieving starting pitching
2. An embarrassing bullpen, including the lack of a legitimate closer
3. Having too many prima donna players who didn't like the fact that Bobby Valentine wouldn't allow them to eat chicken wings and drink beer in the clubhouse during the games, like Tito Francona allowed them to do last season.
4. David Ortiz and his "injury" problems
5. A team full of malcontents, quitters, and underachievers, most of which were traded away by the end of the trading deadline, leaving the Red Sox with a bunch of AAA players posing as major leaguers.
6. The "legacy" of the "boy blunder", Theo Epstein, who is now working his "magic" for the Chicago Cubs (and the Cubs were even worse than the Red Sox this year).
7. Bobby Valentine, who is a very good manager who walked into a snakepit when he accepted the job as Red Sox manager. A team that absolutely QUIT on a "player's manager" like Tito Francona the past two Septembers was certainly NOT going to transform into something different under Bobby Valentine.
8. REAL Red Sox fans, like myself, are embarrassed, disgusted, and upset at what happened this year, but this was not unexpected.

Where can we get players like that?

Yeah, I do.

No, you don't, dude.

You were trying to point a finger at Crawford ... a guy who didn't produce at all last year when the Sox were dominating and a guy who also played all this season with his elbow about to fall off until he got moved LA .. where he will ultimately have Tommy John and miss another season.

If you followed the team you would know this and you know that Carl Crawford wasn't the problem.

The meltdown of the Sahx has been a team effort...The fantasy numbers don't lie.

Ah, the backpedal.

Entering the season career ERA:

Beckett: 3.84
Lester: 3.53
Buchholz: 3.64

ERA this season:

Beckett: 5.23
Lester: 4.82
Buchholz: 4.56

^ When you are getting that from your 1-2-3 in your rotation you are going to lose a lot of games.

Oh, and the Sox were 7th in the majors in runs scored.

The Red Sox can't pitch ... that's their problem, on the field at least.
