Why do Republicans hate entitlements - except for the rich?

The Republican message about Entitlements is consistent. No matter what the topic, what the media, what the question...the reply is to end Entitlements. When you ask Republicans to explain their vaunted "values", the ultimate effort is to combat Entitlements. Every lie, every sleazy PR tactic, every mile of astroturf, every phony "popular uprising" are simply means justifying the holy Crusade (which often literally involves hoisting the Cross, or other religious symbols). Republicans are demanding their own Entitlement: the entitlement of the rich to channel all resources into maximizing their personal wealth.

My main complaint on entitlements is that we call them entitlements in the first place.

You aren't entitled to anything.

If you are unable to work, due to age or disability, then you are living off the charity of your fellow men and women, and this is what a humane society should do. Social Security was always a big ponzi scheme from day 1. And like all Ponzi schemes, someone eventually ends up holding the bag.

If you are unable to work because the economy hasn't provided enough jobs, that's another issue. A lot of people refuse to take less pay and take their full 26 weeks of unemployment rather than take a job that pays a little less. But again, this is charity, not entitlement.

If you are collecting welfare because, hey, the world owes you, that's where we went totally wrong. If you are the third or fourth generation of your family collecting welfare, and you have babies out of wedlock to get a bigger check, something has gone terribly askew.

Now, if you want to make the observation that the wealthy are too greedy, and use every setback to enrich themselves, that's a valid argument. Then argue to change the tax code, and argue to change social attitudes.

Why are righties so hateful, hostile and foul-mouthed? Oh, I almost forgot... they're righties.

Gosh...I don't know, Lakhota...it could be that we're a little "annoyed" at having the credit rating of the United States of America downgraded like some South American banana republic because you progressives went on a little spending spree and drove our national debt into the stratosphere.

Just a guess... (eye-roll)

And I'll bet you also pay your "fair share" of taxes.........

"In order to have this kind of economic system that we have had continue to thrive, we're going to need to find some way to get people back to work and working at rates which give them a fair amount of DISPOSABLE incomes."

Thats a great quote. Creating low paying jobs is good for teenagers in the summer and college kids. How can we say that a job that pays $7.50 per hour is really a "JOB"? High paying jobs is the key. All kids must be trained to get high paying jobs when they are adults.

Agreed......

For THIRTY FUCKING YEARS we have been giving the rich tax break after tax break and it has been doing nothing but increasing our deficit and creating class warfare. We've gotten to the point where Warren Buffet pays less percentage than his secretary.

It's time to let the Bush tax cuts EXPIRE.

.

yeah, right, Democrats spending $4 trillion a year didn't have anything to do with the debt. The only way to cut the deficit is to cut DimoRATs out of the government.

Analysis: Job Growth Was 10-Fold Higher Before the Democrats Passed Obamacare

“Private-sector job creation initially recovered from the recession at a normal rate, leading to predictions last year of a “Recovery Summer.” Since April 2010, however, net private-sector job creation has stalled. Within two months of the passage of Obamacare, the job market stopped improving. This suggests that businesses are not exaggerating when they tell pollsters that the new health care law is holding back hiring.”

OMG. the DAILYKOS.

And guess what it's about, the rich the rich the rich the rich the rich the rich..

They should go ask all their friggen RICH representatives WHAT the hell is up with ALL YOUR RICHES..

But they won't, they will just piss and moan and play the CLASS warfare games and continue to say the Republican have a war(how nice choice of words there eh?) the working people..... because THAT IS ALL THEY GOT folks.

What the fuck don't you self righteous liberals get. US WORKING PEOPLE who PAY ALL THE TAXES are BROKE. we can't fund all your favorite class warfare games (entitlement) anymore. you all can go to hell

Maybe you should be a liberal then... The working people ARE broke... but the really wealthy in this country... No, I am not talking about your $300k-$1M/year people... but the truly wealthy are making money hand over fist. Maybe you should ask them why you are being overly burdened and broke while they keep expanding their wealth exponentially.

Furthermore... while you are asking them that, perhaps you should ask them why they refuse to invest in this country and it's people. It's kind of funny how up until Reagan, entitlements weren't a problem and were an accepted and lauded part of our society. After Reagan.... when Big Business started taking over the country, it has become the bane of society. Did you ever think... just once... clear your mind of the Conservative mantra that you have so ingrained in your head... okay... ready(probably not)?

Did you ever think that they want Medicare and Social Security dissolved so that Wall Street and private insurance companies can get their hands on that money too? The whole point of Social Security and Medicare is specifically NOT to have it be "for profit" and subject it to the risk taking of Wall Street and the cost cutting and Cold Blooded actuarial processes of Insurance Companies.

That is OUR money that has been specifically taken from our paychecks to provide those benefits to us. I don't want a middleman sucking a part of that money away, and I certainly don't want to have my Social Security subject to the next time Wall Street fucks up.

Here's the funny thing about rich people: Without the poor and middle class buying most of the stuff they sell - there would be no rich people.

Here's the funny thing about stupid people. Without stupid people buying bullshit from politicians, we would have no fucking corrupt bastards in congress.

My bet is when you try to repeal Obamacare the left wing fringe will fire up the races claiming it now a "Right" and they should riot because its being taken away.

You may be right... but you only have yourselves to blame. You and your fictional death panels and your cries of Socialism took the Public Option away. That would have created jobs... why you ask? because Small businesses wouldn't need to worry about insuring their employers. That is a huge savings for the low cost of up to 4% of their personal income taxes.

We've come to the point in liberal history when keeping more of the money you earned is considered to be an entitlement to the left wing mind. Not having 3/4 of your money robbed by people who haven't got a clue is considered an "entitlement" to the left. Let me clue you in lefties. It ain't your money.

Righties even seem unable to grasp that $1.00 of unemployment insurance benefits provides a bang for the buck of $1.61—that is, for every $1 in UI benefits, GDP one year later is increased by an estimated $1.61.

Please stop trying to get that tired dog to hunt...nobody bought it when Nancy Pelosi trotted it out a year and a half ago and nobody (with a whit of common sense) buys it now.

Just because Nancy Pelosi was the one to present the information does not mean she was the source of the information. Do you have information or FACTS that are contrary to the report provided by Moody's?

The industry research firm Moody's Economy.com tracked the potential impact of each stimulus dollar, looking at tax rebates, tax incentives for business, food stamps and expanding unemployment benefits.

The report found that "some provide a lot of bang for the buck to the economy. Others ... don't," said economist Mark Zandi.

In findings echoed by other economists and studies, he said the study shows the fastest way to infuse money into the economy is through expanding the food-stamp program. For every dollar spent on that program $1.73 is generated throughout the economy, he said.

.

That isn't a true statement.

Reagan cut taxes in 1981, and an economic boom followed.. Then he raised them as part of the 1986 tax reform. A recession followed.
Then Bush-41 raised taxes some more to save the S&L's. The recession got worse
Then Clinton Raised them, but cut Capital gains taxes.
Finally Bush-43 cut them..

The real economic problem is that we've systematically lost our manufacturing. We could go on wild Keynesian spending sprees in the past because from 1916 to 1976, we were an exporter of manufactured goods. We ran trade surpluses.

The entire national debt for our first 200 years in 1976 was less than 600 billion. In short, less than half of any one year of the Obama Adminstration. This was despite spending on two world wars, an interstate highway system, a space program and a cold war buildup of very pricy weapons we never used, thankfully.

Then we started importing more than we exported. It hit a trillion by the end of Jimmy Carter, 3 trillion by the end of Reagan, 5 trillion by the end of Bush-41 and 7 trillion by the end of Clinton. Bush ran it up to 10 trillion, and Obama to 15 trillion- so far.

Both parties are to blame for this. The Democrats are to blame for unreasonable labor rules that keep wages high, and protect union workers who probably ought to be fired. Not to mention ridiculous regulations on environment, labor, safety, etc. The Republicans are to blame because they supported free trade, and didn't keep up with our infrastructure needs.

We need to re-evaluate our goals, and the first thing we need to do is stop taking care of the rest of the world when we aren't taking care of ourselves.

We are now at the height of "Big Government" in the US history... We spend more and have more programs for people than at any other time... We are also the closest we have ever been to collapse.

Maybe it's time to change course? Or do you really want to argue we need to spend more?

They're called entitlements because we are entitled to them. We paid for them. Call it insurance if you prefer, but they aren't some giveaway.

You can also look at welfare as an insurance program against crime. When you are out of options and you are facing a hungry child, a parent will do pretty much anything to give that child something to eat...and that includes committing a crime.

We've got a ratio of one job to every five applicants...that's a lot of hungry people.

There is way more entitlements for the poor, ie welfare, wic, free education . Section 8 houses , food stamps.. That is just to name a few and the Rich earned their money others are just given to them. I am neither Rich or Poor. I a smack dab in the middle. Hubby worked his butt off 25 years in the navy and now is working his butt after navy retirement. Could we live on his retirement alone mostly likely yes but we do not want to live pay check to pay check plus we want to put our kids through college with our student loans. We do not qualify for any grants ( make to much) I would love to see my kids come out of college without owing anything to anyone but them selves.!! And last but not least MOST(not) all have earned every penny they earned !!

And I'll bet you also pay your "fair share" of taxes.........
