The Republican message about Entitlements is consistent. No matter what the topic, what the media, what the question...the reply is to end Entitlements. When you ask Republicans to explain their vaunted "values", the ultimate effort is to combat Entitlements. Every lie, every sleazy PR tactic, every mile of astroturf, every phony "popular uprising" are simply means justifying the holy Crusade (which often literally involves hoisting the Cross, or other religious symbols). Republicans are demanding their own Entitlement: the entitlement of the rich to channel all resources into maximizing their personal wealth.

My main complaint on entitlements is that we call them entitlements in the first place.
You aren't entitled to anything.
If you are unable to work, due to age or disability, then you are living off the charity of your fellow men and women, and this is what a humane society should do. Social Security was always a big ponzi scheme from day 1. And like all Ponzi schemes, someone eventually ends up holding the bag.
If you are unable to work because the economy hasn't provided enough jobs, that's another issue. A lot of people refuse to take less pay and take their full 26 weeks of unemployment rather than take a job that pays a little less. But again, this is charity, not entitlement.
If you are collecting welfare because, hey, the world owes you, that's where we went totally wrong. If you are the third or fourth generation of your family collecting welfare, and you have babies out of wedlock to get a bigger check, something has gone terribly askew.
Now, if you want to make the observation that the wealthy are too greedy, and use every setback to enrich themselves, that's a valid argument. Then argue to change the tax code, and argue to change social attitudes.
