While I applaud the Republicans' efforts to spew take responsibility for your own personal survival. Something out of the dark ages, it is not a reasonable way to approach societal issues involving the population of America. To turn over 50 years of comfort of two major social programs that keep America from looking like Mad Max. Into, do I feel lucky programs with no underlying security mechanism. Where were all these "crocodile" tears concerning the federal debt when it increased 188.6% under the Reagan Administration, 55.6% under the GHW Bush Administration and 89.0% under the GW Bush Administration.

GWB inherited budget surpluses from the Clinton Administration and left Obama with 2 wars and the greatest economic recession since 1929

The federal debt/GDP ratio was at its lowest point since WW2 (32.5%) at the end of the Carter Administration but reached 84.2% by the end of the GW Bush Administration. It would have reached 93.9% debt/GDP ratio had Clinton not lowered it by 9.7%.

The last time the Republicans blanced a budget was 1957 under Dwight Eisenhower - and the OP has the audacity to question "Why do liberals ignore the debt?"
