Why Do Liberals Deny America's Christian Founding and Heritage?

Anyone who reads the writings from the founding era will encounter countless declarations that God helped found America, that God helped the Patriots defeat the British army, and that God founded America to be a beacon of Christianity to the world. Such sentiments are plastered throughout writings from the founding period.

Yet, many if not most liberals claim that America was founded as a secular nation. They quote a small handful of documents that seem to contradict America's godly heritage. They quote, for example, the Treaty of Treaty, but ignore the circumstances in which that treaty was written, not to mention the fact that they ignore the numerous founding-era statements that plainly contradict that treaty. They also ignore the countless statements from the generations following the founding era.

When FDR referred to preserving "our religion" in his nationally broadcast prayer for the success of the D-Day invasion, what religion do liberals suppose he had in mind?

A few liberals acknowledge America's Christian heritage and simply argue that that heritage is outdated and should be rejected. But, most liberals argue that America was founded as a secular country, when in fact primary sources from the founding era and from subsequent generations clearly prove otherwise.

Then there is the First Amendment of Constitution.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of Religion or prohibiting the free excerise thereof..."

There is no State Sanctioned, no State Funded, no State Supported, no State Requirment of any religion in the U.S. No person can be required to attend a religious service, nor can a person be demanded to or coerced into attending a religious service.

No, because they put safeguards in to keep us from becoming Europe....sadly, the democrats keep wanting to get rid of those safeguards because they love the top down government model of Europe.

The 1854 U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee. This is from an 1854 report that the Judiciary Committee wrote in response to a private petition to ban Christianity from government:

Had the people, during the Revolution, had a suspicion of any attempt to war against Christianity, that Revolution would have been strangled in its cradle... In this age, there can be no substitute for Christianity... That was the religion of the founders of the republic and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants. As a follow-up, in May 1854, Congress passed the following resolution:

An excellent source on this issue is a book written in 1864 by B. F. Morris titled Christian Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the United States, Developed in the Official and Historical Annals of the Republic. Morris was a careful scholar and spent years in researching and writing the book. The book is available for free online:

The framers never intended to found a godless government, much less a secular nation. They did not want the government to be under the control or influence of one particular Christian denomination over others. They did not want a Baptist-run/controlled government or a Catholic-run/controlled government, etc. But they certainly intended for the government to be friendly and welcoming toward Christianity as a whole. They never dreamed anyone would misread the First Amendment to ban prayer in school or the display of the Ten Commandments in school. If someone had told them that a future Supreme Court would so grossly misread the Constitution, they would have thought the idea far fetched.

Again, liberals, when FDR prayed during his D-Day prayer, broadcast over national radio, that we would preserve and defend "our religion," what religion do you think he had in mind?

But that does in the slightest change that our government is secular in that organized religion cannot infringe upon it or it infringe on organized religion.

The founders had their chance to run the country. It's our country now.
