Raul Castro Calls on Obama to Remove Embargo with Executive Action

dec 17 2014
Wednesday during President Barack Obama's announcement the United States will begin the process of normalizing relations with Cuba, their Cuban leader Raúl Castro dressed in his military uniform called on Obama to use an executive order to lift the economic embargo imposed on Cuba by Congress.

He also wants obama to allow cubans in america to send their money back to cuba by remittances. How will that help america?

I've read of some quite distasteful reservations that people have of this idea. For a myriad of reasons.
But the whole idea fascinates me from a cultural standpoint. The history and heritage of Cuba (politics notwithstanding) is rich and romantic. Currently, Cuba exists as a time capsule frozen still in the 1960's.
My fear is for the encroachment of modernity and the effect it will have on culture and tradition. A visit to Cuba has been on my "bucket list" for decades.

More Obama giving us the finger. He acts like the elections never happened

ran across this:

H.R.927
Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity (LIBERTAD) Act of 1996 (Enrolled Bill [Final as Passed Both House and Senate] - ENR)
Bill Text - 104th Congress 1995-1996 - THOMAS Library of Congress :

That's what happens when socialism takes over. Technological progress ends when the govt controls everything. Only the free market can create new things.

And the "normalization" of relations with Cuba will bring what? A McDonalds and KFC on every corner?
Fuck that. I am a free market capitalist and a conservative. But to bastardize a culture such as the one that currently exists in Cuba is tantamount to cultural genocide.

Does it seem like Obama is making friends with all our enemies? and thumbing his nose at all our Friends? like Israel.

I just don't get it and he still scares me

Why does the OP lie all the time? My opinions have nothing to do with what Castro's saying. I've been wondering why we've kept up with this failed policy since the fall of the Berlin Wall, if not before.

This has nothing to do with Israel. While Cuba are not the bastion of Human Rights (either are the US) there is far worse countries in the world which have normal relations with the US.

Cuba on Human Rights is ranked 117th in the world(US is 17th) ahead countries like of India, Peru, Singapore and Thailand. They are way ahead of Saudi Arabia who 206th, and every conservative will get on there knees and blow them anytime.

Countries

Lets just say one thing. How has the last 50 years of embargo gone? Nowhere... Let them have satellite TV and American tourists and they will have an uprising within a decade.

The only people acting "like the elections never happened" are the ones who keep forgetting this president has won two terms.

If you think a sitting president's party losing seats in his sixth year is significant, check your history book. Funny, though, that conservatives keep invoking this "will of the people" shit like it's not an American majority who keep electing Obama. When Republicans try to shut him down at every turn, is that the GOP subverting the will of the people?

This will help cuba but how does it help america?? Obozo is gonna let cuba dump its welfare bums on america like he's doing with the rest of latin america.

One could say that about any effort to change North Korea.

I think the whole Cuba thing is a cold war relict, and we have this national memory of a time when a people chose their dictator over our dictator, and we really don't even know why that pisses us off anymore.
