Why did 145 House Republicans vote against this bill?

Just send this worst U.S. Congress in history home on an early recess. Haven't they done enough damage? Recess = Peace & Tranquility. I think more & more Americans are agreeing with me on this.

Are you planning on posting on topic today or are you just going to keep making broad generalizations based on your own opinion?

Well, okay, I've been a bit off topic in a way here too. But Libo isn't really off topic when you put into the perspective that most--at least some--of us do not want Congress to do ANYTHING on this kids' safety legislation. It should not have passed the House and it should not now pass the Senate and President Obama should not sign it into law.

There are times when it is far better for Congress to do nothing at all than for Congress to do the wrong thing.

The illustrations being used by some here are to illustrate that truth.

This sort of thing, and its punishments should rightfully fall under the purview of the states, not some new, sweeping national law.

No there is no need, nor should there be. Assault is against the law in every state. The national government need only butt out.

And I assume you concede that Lopez limited the Federal role in education in a way that would make this legislation unconstitutional.
 
George Bush gave tax cuts to the wealthy, twice, using reconciliation, that cost us 1.8 trillion dollars. 1.8 TRILLION DOLLARS.

Where was the outrage from the republicans then?

Oh but that is different, ya know, kinda like a certain "class" has a right to a free ride, which was what that was!

Was there NOT recently a case, and a thread on this MB about a teacher mistreating a child for not standing during the "pledge" and then allowing/encouraging other children to harass and humiliate the child even though that behavior --- by teacher and other students --- is specifically against the rules? As per usual, the FedGov steps in when locals refuse or choose not to do the right thing. It puts some big teeth into it.

Local law and all is managed by petty local despots, as a rule!
