Why Dems are supporting illegal immigrants?

Serious question. I'm asking some of our liberal-minded friends to address. I am really trying to understand where the other side is coming from.

America was built on immigrants and both parties know this and support immigration as a cornerstone of our nation. That is...legal immigration. But, why on earth would the Democratic party start building it's platform around protecting the institution of illegal immigration? This is so bizarre and not historically how the Dems have viewed the issue. The main evidence for this is:

1. Preferring a GOV shutdown rather than support various measures to enforce immigration law and reform an arguably broken immigration system. I mean even liberal Canada has a merit-based system so this isn't crazy stuff.

2. Dems at state and local levels behind the sanctuary city movement that actively subverts federal law in order to protect the institution of illegal immigration.

What I don't understand is WHY?

(And unless we can present some evidence I'm not aware of any proof that illegals vote in large numbers so I'm not sure that is the answer)

A George Mason University study reported that 14% of illegal immigrants whom they interviewed admitted that they voted in the last election. It's safe to say that an equal number of illegals voted but did not want to admit it. But let's just assume that only 6% voted but would not admit it. That gives you a voting rate of 20% among 9 million adult illegals,which equals 1.8 million votes.

That's why the Dems are willing to shut down the government to try to keep illegals in the country.

The Democrat Politicians and Pundits only care about their money and power, they don’t really care about the average American taxpayer.

If illegals do represent a voter base then, of course, there is the answer. It would explain why Dems oppose voter identification measures.

You won’t get any Lefty Democrat to engage in this one....not with anything rational anyway. I mean, what are they going to say...”I’m an authentic anchor baby, my parents came here illegally therefore all should be able to do the same.” OR “foreigners are the responsibility of American taxpayers.” OR “they’re just looking to better their life’s at the expense of your quality of life” OR “the U.S. Constitution and U.S. sovereignty is a joke.”
Really, no sane REAL American can actually support illegal immigration using basic logic and reason.

People need to start putting their thinking caps on.

The Dems want the dreamers, which comes to a total of 3.5 million or so ,as reports say, not just the 800,000.
They can then bring in all of their relations which is a mass chain of immigration of gigantic amounts.
They know it was the Dems that got them here ,with all kinds of government assistance so of course they will vote for the Dems.
The Dems are for open boarders and globalization.
The conservative and independents will no longer matter.

The fact that the liberal posters are dead silent on this seems to me proof that this is not a good moves for Dems. Of course, with all the anti-Trump hysteria they've built up I doubt half their base is even thinking about the actual issues anymore. But, it's the independents and the blue collar rust belt they are in danger of losing. They can say what they want about how the Tax Bill will hurt the middle class but people will know when they do their taxes just like they know now about ObamaCare premiums. Not that I mind...I just think it's a fascinatingly stupid move on their part.
