Why do Conservatives hate organized labor? Is it because the Conservatives don't want labor protected? Is it because Conservatives see labor as a commodity? One that should respond to market forces like supply and demand?

Why do conservatives hate civil liberties? Is it because the Conservatives see civil liberties as a hindrance to commerce (I believe commerce is all that really matters to a Conservative)? Is it because Conservatives feel too much freedom is a dangerous thing?

Why do Conservatives hate economically disadvantaged people? They seem to get worked up about unemployment benefits. They seem to have utter contempt for the poor.

Why do Conservatives hate environmentalism? Can it be that Conservatism demands pollution? Again, I believe that as commerce is the single most important thing to Conservatives. Anything that may hinder commerce from doing whatever the hell it wants has to be bad by default.

I know I'm going to take heat for a thread that picks at so many scabs, but these are the issues which seem to divide this country most politically. If some Conservatives want to answer these and other questions honestly, I'd appreciate it.

Why are reactionaries allowed to hide behind the label "conservative"?
Reactionaries/conservatives like to re-define political terms to suit themselves. That's why in 1975 I was a "Liberal". In 2010, they call me "Marxist".

Marxist is scary and simple to understand.

Fear and simplicity (or lack of curiosity and nuance) are watermarks of the Conservative brand.

If you follow conservative policies, you get the feeling they hate this country. The truth is, they think they are "protecting" it.

If you give corporations, the "father" of all jobs and security, everything they want, they will give us jobs and protect us.

God gave the world to conservatives, they can mess it up and dirty it as much as they want because it's a gift from God.

They only want to clamp down on free speech and human rights so they can protect "liberty".

Education will lead you away from God.

We need to return the country to a previous time when it was much more "moral". When blacks were slaves, women couldn't vote and gays were too scared to come out of the closet. Ah, the good old days.

If we went back to the 7 day work week, then we would be too tired to sin and too busy to complain.

If we voided child labor laws, we could keep better track of our children. We would know where they are, at work, where they are supposed to be.

The failure of Democrats and Liberals to stand up to Reagan and his nitwitticisms caused much trouble. The fears of losing seats, the ugly battle we Democrats (at the time) had between Ted Kennedy and President Carter, the rise of the new right and direct mail along with the embrace of fundamental Christians, these all helped conservatives redefine labels and frame discussions.

Tip O'Neil, and later Teddy K., (along with others) saved what is left over from true liberalism.

People like Obama and Clinton are progressives with no firm belief in liberalism.

The man who kills his wife and children because he loses a job and cannot provide (he ignores reality) believes he is saving his family.

Save me from the saviors.

Since when has organized labor actually done any labor? I think thats the problem. They want people to get paid for doing absolutely nothing. Then they bully, intimidate, threaten, extort and engage in other activities that in any other circumstances would put them in jail for 5-10 years.

BTW Conservatives dont hate anything. We are just tired of special interests groups trying to remake our Republic into something else.

Would such a man be more likely to be a Republican or a Democrat?

More likely to be one who posts on a message board with a 5 letter username using nothing but lowercase letters in that name

In my experience, organized labor has provided the best workers for the job. I conducted many, many environmental remediations in my time. Whenever I had crews with union cards, I saw responsible workers taking all the precautions and doing an excellent job. Non-union workers, on the other hand, seemed like 'beer buddy labor' in their understanding of the hazards and execution of the tasks.

What a bunch of bogus straw man questions. They don't deserve the dignity of a response - they are just "when did you stop beating your wife" accusations.

I don't find Marxism simple to understand, but that's just me. But I do think there's a big difference between the conservative and the reactionary and the reason reactionaries like to be called "conservatives" is because "conservative" has a comfortable feel to it and they can hide behind the term. They need to be called out.

If I were to bet, I'd have to go with unregistered independent. A loner type. Angry, white, limited education, inferiority complexes out of this world...

I've worked many non union jobs. My pay scale was always put up against union scale. The lower the union scale pay, the lower my pay. Union pay scales are the only economic model I've seen in action where trickle down actually works.

I don't think they're strawmen, I mean this one - Why do Conservatives hate organized labor? Is it because the Conservatives don't want labor protected? Is it because Conservatives see labor as a commodity? One that should respond to market forces like supply and demand? - is a good question. However it's a closed question which limits its usefulness, I'll concede that. But conservatives and reactionaries do hate organised labour and they want it dismantled and they want to see workers exposed to the twin laws of supply and demand because they believe that's how things should be.

Are you telling me that, as a Conservative, you support collective bargaining and labor unions? That you are a card carrying member of the ACLU? That you support extending unemployment benefits, section eight housing vouchers, food stamps and the WIC program?

Am I all wrong about the staunch Conservative support of environmental regulations?

Or are the questions just a bit too close to the bone to take an honest stab at?

I think that it is HATE itself that attracts the conservatives.

it doesn't matter what the object of that hate is.

for the past 20 years (or more) conservatives spinmeisters have been promoting and defending HATRED of various subjects/proups of people that are percieved as "liberal"

rush limbaugh; "I'll tell you who to HATE....liberals, feminists, environmentalists, homosexual activists...
we are at WAR with liberalism
in war it is OK to HATE your enemies"

and with JUSTIFIED HATRED come perks.....

like INSULTS, PERSONAL ATTACKS, MOCKERY

so
for conservatives, HATING LIBERALS affords them the opportunity to engage in activities that they enjoy the most; personal destruction of other people

if ann coulter and rush limbaugh ever decided that chocolate cake was the enemy of America then they would merely inform their listeners/readers of the evils of chocolate cake and why chocolate cake does NOT deserve ANY respect and their mindless minions would rub their hands together and set about mocking, ridiculing, insulting and HATING all chocolate cakes

That's the face of Conservative 'punditry', but I wonder what the rank and file Conservative thinks.

I know that some Conservatives are strongly motivated by hatred. It makes me wonder why and how anyone could embrace such and ideology and then call themselves "Christian".

Entertaining as hell what passes for 'current events' these days.

And, as a point of order, just because one disagrees with something does not actually mean one 'hates' it. Only total morons who are unable to grasp basic comprehension struggle with that.

Oh, but I do hate stupidity.
