Why Communism will always fail

Alexander Solzhenitzen said to the effect of prison, "upon that rotted straw of a prison cell you realize that all your life you have been taught a lie. We are taught that our objective is prosperity when in fact our objective can only be spiritual maturity."

Why, then, does Communism fail?

It deprives humans of the ability to spiritually mature. It creates the state as the central "object" of worship, and in returns gives you prosperity (theoretically) which it can't even provide that.

At least in a "free society" a human can search out spiritual maturity, as well as prosperity, but if your prosperity is denied you for whatever reason, in a free society, your religion is not denied you. Except it were Christianity but that's a different issue I discuss elsewhere.

NO ONE is promoting communism in this country...so what's your point?

Does this suggest that under a Theocracy, spirituality is staunched? How about under a King or emperor supported by the church?

Economics is about materialism. Religion is about spirituality. Let us not confuse the two.

You say Communism, I say Socialism, in either case the Government steals the work and money of those that can and will to give to those that can but won't.

So tell me Sarg, is this a recent change?

The last change to welfare was in 1996...

Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act

The Bill
Under the law, no person could receive welfare payments for more than five years, consecutive or nonconsecutive.

Federal government gives states "blocks" of money, which the states then distribute under their own legislation and criteria.

Outcome
The consequences of welfare reform have been dramatic. Welfare rolls (the number of people receiving payments) dropped significantly (57%) in the years since passage of the bill. Child poverty rates for African Americans have dropped the sharpest since statistics began to be tallied in the 1960s.

Genesis
The President promised to "end welfare as we know it" in his State of the Union Address. The welfare reform movement reached its apex when the welfare reform bill was signed, officially titled the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996.

It was signed on August 22, 1996 by President William Jefferson Clinton.

And yet millions are still on permanent welfare. Go figure.

Do you have a big spinning wheel in your house with all of your imaginary friends and enemies on it to choose your topic du jour?

Communism fails because it does not support invention and innovation. The world is not a vacume. That is the only environment communism can exist in.

Socialism fails for the same reason Libertarianism fails.

Both fail to address human nature.

Socialism operates with the assumption that people are unselfishly going to contribute to the greater good at the behest of the leaders, and will work hard without recieving amble rewards for their hard work.

Libertarianism operates with assumption that people who are the losers of the game of laisse fair capitalism will go gently into the good night.

They are interesting political science theories, and of course we can and DO incorporate some of their very good ideas into a society.

But to imagine that human nature is going to change to respond to these theories is simply foolish.

As to communism?

Communism, much like Libertarianism beleives that a modern complex society can work without an overarching central government.

These two diametrically opposing forms of anarchism-lite are stragnely VERY similar in that respect and naturally both fail for the aforementioned reason.

How about in china though? Where you have one billion people with only 10% of your country being good farm land. Even in the first century china had a form of socialism because people were inheriting smaller portions lands every generation and estate owners were buying up the land when they could not support themselves anymore. So they came up with the Equal Field System with state owned land.
When you have that many people capitalism isn't really the smartest answer.

I thought communism involved the growing of the state and the idea that you need a large government not small government.

Actually, spiritual maturity is also staunched in those situations and consequently the people are often less productive and less prosperous for it.

Productivity is much more than greed, it involves being content with your situation.
