Why Can't We Elect Presidents of Good Personal Character?

Biological weapons are weapons of mass destruction and Saddam had those. It's not his fault Americans were to stupid to realize WMD's didn't just mean nuclear or atomic weapons.

They were, however, old and useless.

That is the main reason that they are not talked about. Bush really could not save face by touting weapons that were useless.

The Iraq war was completely misguided – we need to STOP nation building. People DO NOT WANT us to build their nation. The very notion is asinine. If another nation were to come over here and dispose of our government and then replace it we would not accept it no matter what it was. It is forign by its very nature. Why do we expect others to feel different?

Ford seemed of reasonable character as did Eisenhower. Carter, too.

Ronnie Raygun? Good character??? RATFLMAO...Iran-Contra anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

Wtf? Carter? and freezing gas prices was reasonable? And his lie about seeing a ufo reasonable? And Carter's fuck up in Iran reasonable? This post must be a joke right?

The title of the thread is good personal character. None of the above qualify in regard to his character. His decision making, sure, but GOOD character? No.

We vote for politicians primarily on our political party not on character. Every so often historians will rate the past presidents explaining why they rated them good or bad but people believe or disbelieve the historians based on their politics. The historians are labeled commies and such but again it comes down to politics. Books are written on good and bad presidents and why they are good and bad but to no avail, it aways comes down to politics. Bob Newhart did a skit years ago as a campaign adviser to Abraham Lincoln runnng for president and the dialougue still holds much truth.

The weakness in our system is us, we the people.

The last two I can recall are Truman and Reagan. What the hell are we doing??

"Why can't we elect Presidents of good Personal Character?"

(1). We have lowered the age of voting and given it to people who are quite unfledged politically. The lowering of age was given to accommodate young soldiers on the basis of their sacrifices, but soldiers only comprise about 2% of the population. The issue was used to get more votes for those who appealed to youth, not mature adults.

(2). We have given the vote , not to mention elected office, to people convicted and imprisoned for crimes who are not taught morality in prison, but instead learn slicker maneuvers to not get caught or commit crimes by using the law as a hiding place instead of an improvement in moral character.

(3). We have put party above national interests, personal popularity above party, criminally-entertaining persons above tried-and-true, good men, painted as boring by the press.

(4). The press has disappointed its history by supporting beautiful looks over beautiful deeds; distorted the truth; favoring those who pamper them rather than leading the American people and favored those who spend taxpayer money to grow government rather than those who spend less to keep government small rather than overblown.

(5) Loss of spirituality

(6) Proliferation of every sin and shaming people who support godly living.

No surprises here, only a sense of helplessness, but with a belief that good will someday return to people's notice in our country.
