Airbus trounces Boeing with another record order

LE BOURGET, France (AP) -- Airbus is trouncing Boeing in the race to be the world's biggest planemaker, claiming over $72 billion dollars worth of orders and commitments at the Paris Air Show, where the popularity of its new fuel-efficient jets twice broke records for the largest order ever.

Airbus' success cast a long shadow over Chicago-based Boeing, which recorded only $22 billion in orders and commitments, and raised questions over the U.S. planemaker's ability to compete in a market dominated by concerns over high fuel prices.

Airbus CEO Tom Enders and AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes signed off Thursday on an $18.5 billion order for 200 of Airbus' new A320neo aircraft, which has proven to be the star of the aviation industry's premier event.

The order is the largest ever, eclipsing the previous record set just Wednesday by another A320neo customer, Asian carrier IndiGo. Airlines often negotiate discounts on large deals.

The recipe to Airbus' gains over Boeing is deceptively simple. It modified its existing workhorse jet, the A320, with improved engines and modified wingtips to make it allegedly 15 percent more fuel-efficient than Boeing's 737.

Republicans would rather ruin America than promote a union company.

actually unions ruined America by suicidally driving about 30 million jobs overseas because they care only about those few still left with union jobs.

The most patriotic course is to make unions illegal again so Boeing can concentrate on making the best planes in the world, and not on greedy treasonous union thugs who would have Boeing operate and locate to suit the union thugs, and not suit international competition.

Hmmmm, Maybe because Airbus is a government subsidized corporation that both the French and German governments have a vested interest in? If Boeing got the sort of subsidies that Airbus does it might just be able to spend all the billions it would need to spend to develop a more fuel efficient jet liner.

what a minute, government subsidies come with strings and do more harm than good. Our best bet is to make government sponsored unions illegal so the company can concentrate on business.

Brutus,
Have you looked at the political and economic system in Europe lately, particularly in France? They don't have the same view of capitalism we do, and mix in a LOT more socialism. They're industries and major companies are almost all heavily subsidized. It's about the only way they can stay competitive on the international market. Germany is a little different, but it still provides a lot of subsidies for what it considers to be key industries.

perhaps you have explained why France is so poor. It has about the same percapita income as Arkansas one of our poorest states. THe last thing we need is make work liberal bureaucrats trying to pick winners and losers with other people's money.

Are you saying that un-American Unions, turned American business owners, into un-American business owners, by forcing them at gun point to relocate, because they weren't making enough money? They only had two vacation homes instead of the three their counterparts have?

Seriously though, if Boeing wants to move let them move it's their right and their company, and this is still America. But when they blame their move on the Unions, instead of telling the truth, which is they will make more money somewhere else paying workers peanuts, that is just BS. They are trying to avoid public backlash for moving.

Simple, they cheat. They are subsidized by France. The first airplanes they sold were free for the first two years, who wouldn't agree to that????

Higher compensation rates in the united states means the planes from boeing cost more hence the orders going to the place that will build planes for cheaper.

Brutus,

I guess you didn't understand my point. I wasn't saying that subsidies were a good idea for American business's. I was saying that if Boeing had received the same sort of subsies that airbus does that it too would have been offering a cheap fuel efficient plane at the airshow. Basically, without those subsidies Airbus wouldn't have developed that plane, and thus wouldn't be winning the contract. I know it's circular logic, but that's how I look at things.

Also, there is no backlash in Carolina, just praise for being one of our premier industries. If union thugs don't like it, what do you expect from treasonous thugs who alread shipped 30 million jobs overseas

owners get what market judges them to be worth for the knowledge or capital they provide, unions get what they can with violence and don't care what they are really worth.

Seriously though, if Boeing wants to move let them move it's their right and their company, and this is still America.[exactly]

exactly, we don't need violent greedy union thugs telling the corporations that sustain our lives where or how to operate.

But when they blame their move on the Unions, instead of telling the truth, which is they will make more money somewhere else paying workers peanuts,

too stupid!!!! tell the workers in Carolina that its peanuts rather than a great way to support their families. Its sure 1000% better than moving to China!!!! which is the lesson the filthy unions don't seem to get!!

that is just BS. They are trying to avoid public backlash for moving.

they are our the saviors of our way of life and as such are trying desperately and heroically to make a competitively priced plane in a globalized world. We need to support them 1000% and make unions illegal

Bulcrap. The French are paid well, subsidized by their government. It's the subsidies that make it easier for Airbus, not the cost of labor.

psst... the first quote wasn't me. I was unaware of the violence could you elaborate?
That is the problem...corporations sustaining our lives paying the worker what they want instead of what they are worth. What happens when Carolina gets undercut and does move to China? If they moved once for cheaper labor they will move again, the only question is to where.

Right,

It's quite possible. However, do you think they could have developed that product at that price without government subsidies?

Not subsidies, loans apparently.
WTO appeal overturns US "victory" in Airbus case, says WTO - Monsters and Critics
RLI (Reimbursable Launch Investment) allows up to 33 per cent of the development cost of new plane models to be met through government loans, which are to be fully repaid within 17 years with interest and royalties.
Their gummints (France, Spain, Germany) believe that assisting such companies provides a nett benefit to their population and economy.

if management does not recognize and negociate with labour, liberals with guns come and take the owners to jail.

imagine if everyone got paid what they wanted rather than what the market wanted??? Econ 101 for you?

a company must always go where costs are lowest or a competitor will and they will go bankrupt. Does the liberal want to make it illegal for business to be competitive?? You think like a child it seems to me?
Think about the implications of what you say before you write it down

Parts for Airbus are also made in England.
