Why Are the Democrats Acting Like Trump Is Still Insisting on a WALL Instead of a Fence?

In his address to the nation, President Trump specified that he is willing to settle for a secure fence instead of a wall. He said this at least twice in the week leading up to his televised address. Yet, Schumer and Pelosi and other Dems keep referring to their opposition to a "wall," keep saying that a "wall" is immoral, etc., etc. The 2013 Gang of Eight immigration reform bill, which every Senate Democrat voted for, included $7.5 billion for 700 miles of border fencing (plus a large increase in the number of border patrol agents). So what's the problem with Trump's request for $5.7 billion for 700 miles of fencing? And why are Democrats virtually ignoring Trump's significant compromise of being willing to accept a fence instead of a wall?

Marc Thiessen: This is the stupidest government shutdown in US history. When will Dems get smart about it?

Currently their is $1.6 budgeted for the fence unused from previous budgets. Surely the rest could be pulled from welfare or military budgeting or how about the 12 billion Trump gave away to the farmers for his cost free trade war with China? Can't find five billion with a six hundred billion military budget is like saying you can't afford a five dollar item when you have five hundred in your pocket.

I see this drawing to conclusion soon. With Pelosi's statement about supporting a technological wall, she laid the groundwork for a compromise. They continue pretending Trump is pushing for a giant cement wall because it is easier to argue against even though that has been off the table for months.

As we all know President Trump listened to the true border experts, the border patrol and agreed to what they wanted. A steel barrier that they could see through.

Dems probably want guarantees it wont morph back into a 30ft concrete wall from sea to shining sea. Drumpf is not a man of his word and lies as easily as he breathes. I could see Dems giving him $5B and Drumpf tweeting out that the concrete wall will begin construction. Drumpf is a dumbass that runs his mouth an lies too much.

Why don't we take it from the 50 Billion the government is trying to give to shithole countries?

Totally agree that Trump should pay for the wall with foreign money:
1.Pay for the wall by Imposing a tax/fee on "remittances" back to their home countries
2. Pay for the wall from tariffs imposed on imports
3. Pay for the wall from the $56b foreign aid budget
4. Pay for the wall by selling parts of Federal Lands that are not important

Democrats are acting just as they should. Their first act upon regaining the house cannot be to knuckle under to Trump. Not going to happen.

Truth be told, however, we are in this mess because too many ultra-conservative Republicans, such as Ted Cruz, demagogued the 2013 immigration bill (S.744), a bill that passed the Senate with 68 votes, and persuaded enough House Republicans to oppose the bill. That bill was a very reasonable, sane compromise that provided funding for 700 miles of border fencing, a huge increase in the border patrol force, and a host of other sound provisions, in exchange for some very reasonable compromises on the status of illegals already in the country.
