Why Are My Tax Dollars Going To Support Pbs

You believe that a company that takes >$7 billion in taxpayer subsidies and pays so little that their employees qualify for >$6 billion in taxpayer supported welfare SHOULD BE nickel and dimeing their employees?

Why do you keep telling lies that you have been busted on dozens of times.

Walmart gets not one dime of federal subsidies

No matter how many times you tell this lie, it will remain a lie.

I don't know about that, but they do encourage their employees to be subsidized by the government.....and reap the benefit of not putting so much out on payroll.

When you go and buy a loaf of bread do you voluntarily pay the baker twice the sale price? If not why not?

Does it appear that Walmart has any trouble staffing its stores at present wage levels

{Public television is America’s largest classroom, the nation’s largest stage for the arts and a trusted window to the world – all at the cost of about $1 per person per year. The proposed legislation overlooks the critical value that PBS’ nearly 360 member stations provide to major cities and small towns.}

The problem is, not a word of this is true.

In 1970 it was, but in 2014 it is a steaming pile of shit.

The viewership of the Science Channel, History Channel, and the dozen Discovery Channels dwarf PBS - combined they provide a classroom that is thousands of times more watched than PBS. A&E and Paladium offer vastly more cultural fare than does PBS.

IF PBS is the value you leftist claim, then viewers will be happy to pay for it, just as we pay for Science and Discovery channels.

When their were 3 network stations, the argument for PBS was sound. With 3,000+ stations on most systems, it is total bullshit.

One problem. History, Science, and Discovery exist to get viewers and ratings.

I watched Shark Week on Discovery, something I used to enjoy and feel like I was gaining good information. Their supposedly educational fare came in the form of a fictional movie, on par with Jaws, only in documentary form. They had an actor playing a marine biologist telling the audience that sharks liked to eat people, and liked to play with their food. WTF?

That's one example of the degradation of the educational nature of those channels, because they are whores for the ratings.

No, they have a problem with staffing the stores well, staffing the stores without huge turnover, and the employees still have trouble making ends meet.

Last time I checked, the four top most listened to talk radio shows were

1. Rush Limbaugh
2. All Things Considered - PBS
3. Morning Edition - PB

Here's the updated list:

1.) The Rush Limbaugh Show
2.) Morning Edition
3.) The Sean Hannity Show

It's so very nice of you to care about Walmart's welfare. Are you a regular shopper there? Is that why you care so much about helping them?

It appears to me that they're fine with their operations as they are. Do you like people telling you how to conduct yourself as a wife in your marriage?

I don't know about that, but they do encourage their employees to be subsidized by the government.....and reap the benefit of not putting so much out on payroll.

Walmart pays a higher than average wage for retail. Retail is about the lowest end of the curve for job skills. While there are certainly people who get food stamps working for Walmart - hell 1 in 5 Americans are on food stamps under Obama, that does not equate to a subsidy to Walmart.

Individual%20Food%20Stamps-CHART-2.jpg

Food stamps go to people who apply for them. Walmart has never applied for nor received food stamps.

The percentage of workers on food stamps at Walmart is statistically identical to those who work at Target, or Kohls. Retail clerks are not paid much because they are not worth much. Anyone off the street with 5 minutes training can do the job of a retail clerk. It doesn't take brains, education, or ambition - ergo it doesn't pay much.

PBS has done more good for educating preschoolers than any other of the big three that has programs so people can laugh or cry over the human condition..Entertaining,, yet not very educating to a 3 year old...

If only it had not been taken over by lying progressive liberals hell bent on socialism.

Oh yeah, card carrying radicals, just like those of the lunatic fringe of the American Revolution....

LOL one big difference, progressive liberals are mostly gutless cowards. Why else do they have to lie and back stab.

How many knife scars do you have?

You talking to me, a NRA card carrying conservative?

No, I am talking to that mouse in your pocket...

So why are you people crying about a liberal media?

I'm not. I fully support the right of Air America to exist. I cry about government shoving liberal bullshit down my throat with my own tax dollars. Liberal bullshit is not a public interest suitable for government funding, it's a partisan interest. Why shouldn't the Federal Government subsidize Rush Limbaugh and buy his show and push it out on NPR?

You have the right to vote against it and you have the right to challenge the constitutionality of such spending in the courts.

What more do you want? Magic?

To the liberal mind "educating" and "indoctrinating" are synonyms.

As opposed to what? Christian conservative parents?
1. Sells advertising.
2. Steals my money.
3. Steals my money.

I can't understand you liberals. Fucking glibness about using government money to keep a liberal viewpoint on the air when it can't find enough of an audience via the marketplace.

The better solution is for the KKK to institute a management takeover of NPR and change the programming to something that you find utterly offensive. Hey, you can always vote for your Congressman to do something about that.

You're expecting logic from a liberal? Conservatives think, liberals feel.

NO, but I enjoy watching them try to answer questions like that. The only problem is that they never do

They are nothing like the Found Fathers. For one thing, the Founding Fathers believed in private property.

No one gives a shit about keeping "liberal viewpoints" on the air. You guys are the only ones trying to make it about political viewpoints.

What percentage of PBS airtime is devoted to political opinion shows? What about the other 23.5 hours of the day?

Bill Moyer's Journal, Charlie Rose, and Gwen Iffel, are all rabid left wing nuts. Why are my tax dollars going to support their biased diatribe very single week? Wonder what left would say if Rush Limbaugh got taxpayer subsided air time on PBS?
When I lived in California with my favorite former hubby, I watched PBS so often, I became a member at $65.00 a year and a PBS cute cup. I felt I was contributing to something I was receiving so much gratification from, in the way of outstanding programming. I'm not a person who wants or expects something for nothing.

Hubby asked WHY I was sending them money when it was a station already partially taxpayer funded. :ack-1:

I hadn't a clue.

I never sent them another dime.

They seem to be doing fine.

You think liberal bias is expressed only on opinion programs? Like the plague, it infects everything. As with lies of omission, liberal bias affects what constitutes news and how news events are presented.
