Why are leftwingers and the lib media hyping Ron Paul?

Paul makes a lot of sense in fundamental criticism of how things are. But since the 1930s huge expansion of government, a great many people look to big government as the entity which is supposed to solve all their problems in life. Leftwingers know that Paul's libertarian beliefs are just something the majority won't support - he represents a "poison pill" candidate that they hope will get nominated so that they will win the election in 2012.

Dont think anybody is going to be fooled again.

Actually, that would make sense if you could actually find evidence that leftwingers are intentionally trying to do so.

If they were, it would backfire on them.

Remember the 2000 Michigan primary, when a bunch of Democrats came out in an open primary and voted John McCain for no other reason than to spank then Gov. Engler? Yeah, McCain crowed about his victory, but the end result was that hard core Republicans tuned him out and he didn't win anothe primary after that.

In this case, you could have a huge amount of Democrats voting for Ron Paul in an early, open primary, but that would be fairly obvious and would just cause a reaction against him.

Poison pill candidates just get the rank and file to gather around someone who is viable. Such as when Pat Buchanan won in NH in 1996, that just boosted Bob Dole.

Or ...

Because he finished second in the Iowa straw poll.

Same placing as 2012 if he's the candidate.

LOL... as the sun will rise and the earth will turn, they will indeed be fooled again.

Nobody, except for a loyal cadre of inter web posters hypes Ron Paul

Ron Paul is a nice old man who dusts off his radical ideas every four years and tries to sell them to the masses

He is good for some discussions on political message boards but is a non-entity on the national political scene

We'll see, won't we? I know a lot of people want to keep him - and most importantly his ideas - as marginalized as possible.

The lib media has given him LOADS of publicity for years, and there's nothing he does or says that merits any more than other candidates or spokesmen (like santorum and pawlenty) that they practically black out. They have envisioned him as the third party candidate who does what ross perot did in 1992 (get Clinton elected with 42% of the vote) or what Ralph nader did in 2000 - get Bush 2 elected when gore otherwise would have won.

As I said, spolier third party candidates have changed election results twice in the last 20 years.

More than anything, I'd MUCH rather have Ron Paul nominating any new Supreme Court justices than I would anyone else in the field.

Second, inspite of being endlessly hyped for years, while the candidate who has recently faced the full brunt of the leftwing defamation machine finished first.
