When Tanzie Youngblood announced her congressional bid for New Jersey’s 2nd District, she thought she’d easily win the support of local, and even national, Democrats. A year with a record number of women running for office, a promising blue wave and the #MeToo movement seemed perfect for her progressive campaign.

Youngblood—a retired school teacher and first-time black female candidate—figured the primary race might get crowded after 12-time Republican incumbent Frank LoBiondo announced his retirement in November. But she never anticipated that the ones attempting to sink her campaign wouldn’t be her primary opponents, but the Democratic establishment itself.

Last month, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee threw its weight behind Jeff Van Drew, a New Jersey state senator with a 100 percent rating from the National Rifle Association. Van Drew once accepted a $1,000 donation from the group, and has been dubbed one of the “most conservative Democrats” in the New Jersey legislature, a moniker he's earned for having co-sponsored legislation to bring back the state’s death penalty for certain murder convictions, and require parental notification for minors seeking abortions. He was also one of just two state Senate Democrats to vote against same-sex marriage in 2012.

Look over there! Look! Look! It's Russia, dagnabit.

1. They speak out of both sides of their mouth.
2. They are running out of people to burn.
3. The I hate Trump platform is insufficient.
Ever try to speak out one side of your mouth but not the other. It’s really weird, plus it’s kind of hard to do.

No............I haven't. I think I need another cup of coffee for that. If I leave for work right now it will still be dark and I can try it while driving. No one else will see it. Hmmm....

I suspect that the democrats went for the more conservative white guy because it’s a conservative district, so they beleive he has a better chance of winning.

Because race and gender don't matter more than policy ... And Democrats are tired of their policies losing elections ... :dunno:

Why are they backing someone who has name recognition in a district that has been held by a Republican for years? Because they want a shot at winning, duh.

Why the color and gender issues always being front and center in these threads about Elections today ?? What about a person's skills and character ? Isn't that the most important ??

What policies?

The ones that are different between the two candidates ... You posted the OP ...

.

No. Once upon a time there were discussions of policies. Now there are screaming matches, division and lots of emotional drivel and condescending....bullshittery.

The Democratic Party is akin to a $10 crack whore. Really. Only it's a $10 crack whore with some venereal disease that has no problem spreading it and doesn't want to tell their partners.

I wouldn't restrict that to Democrats.
