Republicans are saying they want a merit based immigration system.

Let’s talk about that.

It would turn into an elitist system which would leave Republicans on the bottom.
After all, Republicans think college is bad for America.

People from Nigeria are more likely to have a degree than a Republican.
Could you imagine a racist Republican whose boss is one of those super dark black Africans with an accent?

It would solve the problem of high paying unfilled jobs Republicans aren’t qualified for.

And the best part of all? The educated tend to vote Democrat.

So yes, we need to consider a merit based system.

What you miss is thst part of a merit based system would be the likelihood that people would assimilate into American Society. Thzt means the Socialist/Progressive types are far less likely to be admitted.

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Teddy Roosevelt(progressive hero) said that.

Something tells me you’re wrong.

Good point but I suspect what conservatives mean by "merit" is "white and afraid."
Difficult to measure the afraid part and if whites wanted to flock here they already would.

In fact, it seems whites all over the world hate Trump. Europe, Australia, South America. They hope he visits so they can march against him and burn effigies.

No. However far more Conservatives would than Liberals. The traditional American Society is about personal responsibility, nationalism, and individuality not progressive ideals.
Progressive ideals are education and helping other Americans and building and personal freedom and voting rights and clean air and clean water and patriotism and serving.

Democrats would never poison a city. And they certainly wouldn’t defend such actions.

This is why Red States are usually sh!tholes and Blue States aren’t.

im glad you used the word "usually" for red states, but you should have used it for blue ones too....you apparently havent been to the many california threads showing how much of it is becoming shithole worthy....

No. Progressive ideals are making ME pay for YOUR education and healthcare and food. Telling others what pronouns we must use for crazy people who can't figure out their natural gender. Allowing non-citizens a say in our nation's governance. World Citizenship and International law over Americanism.

Shall I go on?

Works for me, you can make assumptions about how a merit based immigration system would work out. As long as we are getting primarily skilled and educated immigrants instead of primarily government dependents, I'm in.

Isn't that what communism is about, nationalism . Those 3 do not go together!

I' Not enough of an expert on Communism, so I'll defer to you.

There is nothing inherently contradictory about nationalism and personal responsibility.

Seems the GOP wants it both ways, nationalism and capitalism. I should say the GOP who cater to the elites, everything for the country, military ,and then nothing for the consumer or worker.

I guess the military needs to protect the elites and the GOP. Ever wonder why they cater to the Evans and rich.

Sure. I'm convinced. Let's do it and get rid of chain migration.

Nationalism and Capitalism aren't necessarily opposites. You might be looking at a somewhat limited Capitalist system, but one just the same.
